Harmonic Balancer

I have read that on the 3.5L the harmonuc balanver is held on by a rubber bushing.I also read that when the bushing wears down the balancer begins to wobble .Is this true? If so then what would this do to the engine besides be a saftey hazzard as a pully could maybe go flying eventually lol? Mine started doing it noticbley the other day and is currently moving oh an inch or so forward and then back again.
Thanks alot and if it helps I have a 93 concorde with the original 3.5L I don't know if maybe they changed it in the newer 3.5s

I say you need a balancer- can take out a lot of stuff when it lets loose, rad, rad fans, transmission, p/s, engine cooler lines, could go thru the hood if you are going fast enough.

You need to change the balancer... There's no rubber bushing on the balancer. It's pressed on the crankshaft. Therefore, to take the old one off, you will need to a harmonic balancer puller. Autozone rents one (specifically called chrysler harmonic balancer puller, which works well).

The HB is not "held on by a rubber bushing" but in general is as yiranhu describes. There *is* however, a rubber component to the balancer that deteriorates over time and certainly will cause wobble. Don't know if I've heard of complete failures, but if yours is as bad as an inch out, you definitely need a replacement.

If nothing else you will be chewing up and/or throwing serpentine belts, and that much wobble will put extra wear on your altenator and PS pump.

Don't know if there any differences over the model years, but Rockauto.com shows the part for your car as Dorman Part # 594183 for $51.79. I got one for one of my '97s about a year and a half ago and it was/is an excellent replacement. Price seems to be higher each time I look it up, however...

All the 3.2s and 3.5s take that balancer, and to add insult to injury, it is on nationwide factory backorder with no release date. Can you tell that I need one too?
Edit: Rockauto says they have it....
