hello I have a 2.7 base model intrepid with the remanufactured Jasper.

OK so I was coming home last night and took a sharp turn onto my street and bam my power steering goes. ??

I pop the hood to find a pulley and a belt laying at the bottom. I'm pretty sure the bracket broke but I'm not sure why it would just crack and fall off.

NOTE: When the car would be cold. I would start it and you could hear the belt or something making a noise but as soon as it warms up she was quiet. Maybe loose? But I thought they were hydraulic and could not be tightened.??

Also I prob go through 2 power steering pumps a year. I have too much into this to just give up. Thank you for your input.

2 power steering pumps a year - wow!

Does the main pulley (on the crankshaft) wobble. I'm just wondering if something is vibrating and damaging the p.s. pump and is what also broke the idler/tensioner pulley bracket.

The p.s. belt tensioner is totally manual - not hydraulic. That pulley that fell off is part of the belt tensioner.

Did you personally replace the pumps? Whoever changed the pumps would have to know about the manual tensioning mechanism to be able to get the belt on and off.
