300M with lost key...options?

I have a chance to buy a ruff 300M with a lost key for cheap...cheap....cheap.

If I decide to do this....anyone know

1. Call locksmith to cut and program a key......cost?

2. Change car to a non-skim ignition....possible?....cost?

My concern is condition of engine without hearing it run....but for $400 should I just say WTH?

Locksmith or dealer can do it, cost to cut key, program, likely in the range of $150 to $200.

Changing to non-skim would likely require an Intrepid SE pcm and bcm, you might lose some features....

Think of it this way, if you spend $400 for the car, and $200 to get the key, is the car worth more than $600 in parts if the engine is toast?

What year is it? I think either way here you will have to get a hold of somebody that can cut you a key for the car so you can at least remove the key cylinder out of the ignition. From there, you could replace the PCM, SKIM and key with one from a yard car that matches.

remote start? if so, there is a chipped blank under the dash.
then any cut key will work.

Take the vin# to the dealer with the paperwork (that you own it) they should be able to cut a key.

thanks guys....decided to pass. She is hinting of water pump/belt failure and I just don't want to get into that right now. No wonder the keys are "lost"

Yeah, easy way to find out...if they will let you just pop a corner o the timing belt cover and see what it looks like....if the belt is in tact might be worth it....but regardless, any $400 car is a guaranteed money pit.

But, unless he already knows the SKIM pin #, he'll have to get that first.

Unless it's worth that much in scrap.
