Can I siphon gas from a 1st Gen?

The day before my 1997 took a dump, I filled the tank. Even with 50 cents off, it still cost me $50.

Is there any way I can safely siphon gas from the tank?

Garage
IIRC, some earlier ones had a drain plug on the bottom of the tank, I know 2nd gens did. That would be easier than siphoning, if you have the means to jack the car up.

My 1995 has a restrictor ball in there, just pop the tube off, and get the ball out (I forget how far down -- been a few years)

I had to do this on a couple gen 1s, the only way I know of is to remove the fuel pump. 4 nuts allow you to remove access to the fuel pump, at that point you can remove the fuel pump buy loosening the big clamp. Once you do you can pull the pump up a bit and insert a hose.

Its relly pretty easy unlsee your a really big guy and have a hard time fitting into the trunk

I'm not a guy at all, so I leave that work to paid professionals. There is one who lives right down the street who probably would be OK with coming down the street.

Problem is, I have no $$ to pay said professionals. All my gas money went into the tank of this car and the new cavalier.

Plus I have lots of 5 gallon cans but not too many buckets.

At this rate, I don't know if the gas I'd recover will be enough to pay the guy I'd have do this for his time.

I am planning to sell it on Craig's List and since it's not a good idea to let them come to your house, I will need gas in there so I can dump 16 ounces of power steering fluid in the car and drive it to the nearest public parking lot, and probably dump the rest of the bottle in to get it home if it doesn't sell.

If I do end up scrapping it, I'll look into removing the gas. But if I sell it to somebody willing to repair it, I'll build an extra $50 into the price to cover the gas.

Me too.

The good news is I replaced her with a model that is fuel efficient, well maintained and needs minimal if any repair. The bad news is that as awesome as she is, she's not a Trep. And I doubt that Chevy has enough fans to establish a forum as awesome as this the next time a mechanic lies to me!
