yeah, it was pretty shitty. in the end i personally got another 2 years out of her and she continues to run to this day (with over 300k miles!) and is as smooth as a baby's bottom.
when she started bucking i limped it off the freeway, happened to catch a light in my favor, shut down and rolled into a gas station. i bought the thickest oil they had, filled up, then limped home. she still ran fine, but we popped the hood and there was a bad sucking noise, so we investigated further. it was coming from down near the carb and i thought that i got her so hot the carb base might have warped and it was leaking air there...well, actually what happened is that most of the many vacuum hoses on the old 250 i6 engine had dry-rotted out and the high heat had caused several of them to bust open. we replaced them, had some gasket work done and a new set of lifters and that truck ran PERFECT for another 2 years like i said and from what my dad tells me she is still running and running well.
nothing can touch an old chevy truck, in terms of reliability, utility, resale value, and all around coolness. ;)
