Positive batt. cable... wire fuse link to alternator fried. The other end of positive line from batt. to alt. was not even bolted to threaded shaft on back side of alt. The red positive wire from batt. had welded itself to the threated shaft on back side of alt. Looks as if the eye connector was never slid onto shaft and nut tightened.
Replaced positive batt. cable with new fuse wire link to alt.
Replaced eye connector on positive wire from batt. to back of alt.
Replaced batt.
Connected new batt. with new positive cable and fuse link
Disconnected alt. (positive from batt, unplugged cluster of wires)
Started engine all good
Batt. lights up in dash to indicate not charging
Removed negative batt. cable.
Connected positive wire from batt. to alt. and plugged in wire cluster at alt.
When reconnecting negative batt. cable sparks fly
Bad alt. ?
