is it the input or the output sensor?

if the trans goes into 2nd gear limp mode on random startup or drops out of gear when rendomly driving it is it the input or the output snesor that is failing? according to this thread its the input sensor.

What is limp mode and what are tranny speed sensors?

i need to confirm which. i actually meant to order the output sensor at NAPA but actualyl got the input one. or is that what i need? input closer to engine and the output farther in rear right?

speedometer works but is a little choppy when accelerating up. always. a little but bouncy sort of, when moving higher.

sometimes when i go to drive it after a start up its already in limp mode. it used to just drop out of gear totally while driivng randomly. it quit doing that though. '93 42LE

also it often shudders intermittedly randomly and heavily while trying to up shift like its confused or doesnt know what to do exactly or something at a given speed. usually around 25 to 45 mph then its smooth fine after that
thx for anything

well i just replaced the input one since thats what i ended up with and took it on an aggressive drive around town here a bit and well so far its great smooth no hint of any buck or shudder or confusion while upshifting but the real test will be 40 to 50mph acceleration to see how 3-4 gear shift goes.. hmm.. interesting so far though. wish i could fix reverse too hah.

You can "Fix" reverse by swapping out the transmission with a good one.
