I currently have an ECM that ends in AF and I recently came across on that ends in AD...whats the difference and is one better than the other? I tried finding a list of ECM's here on the site but have not had any luck yet.
Looks like the Base part number for a 1997 3.5 without PHP is: 04606762
For PHP it's: 04606763
The two letters at the end designate the revision...newer will have a higher letter. Most likely the programming changed. A PCM with the same base part number (The numbers/digits) in this case an AF will be newer than an AD if the base number is the same.
PHP = Performance handling Package. Check your door sticker to see what the tire rating is. If it's "V" rating it's PHP. No V no PHP.
This is 100% correct, just to reinforce his statement, the suffix on the end that is higher would indicate updated programming or 'flashed to updated software' is what a dealership would call it
93 94 are OBD 1.5. 95 up are OBD II the style shape of ALDL connector at base of dash will let you know what OBD it is. i have a 93 and i cant scan diagnose it since cannot connect a scanner diagnostic computer to it.
Edit- IIRC you can hook up a scan tool still, the obd port is in the engine compartment on early models
