Ticking noise from engine - fuel injector?

My Intrepid recently started making a ticking noise from the engine over a month ago. It's not very loud when the hood is closed, but once opened, it is quite loud. This noise happens right when the car is started, and the noise remains consistent even when applying gas, stopped, or even with a warmed up engine.

I took it to the shop, and right away, they told me the noise was the fuel injector. I thought this was weird because it just started making this noise, but I figure since it's an old car, it's going to make noises. They told me not to worry, and there's really nothing they can do, or worth doing besides trying to see if fuel injector cleaner helps.

So I was just wondering if you guys think this is an accurate assumption made by the shop? I know it's hard to tell without actually hearing it, but it is a ticking noise, not an engine knock. Also, is this something to be worried about? I haven't noticed the car performing differently, it's just making the noise.

My oil level is good, despite my engine is leaking oil out the side. I don't know if it would make a difference, but at my last oil change, they put 10w30 in because of the oil leak. The noise started happening about a month later. Also, I had my spark plugs, wires, and a manifold gasket all replaced right before the noise began. Once again I figure it's just a coincidence, but maybe they did something wrong.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the input!

Try the screwdriver trick. Get a super long screwdriver stick the end of the handle on your ear and the other end on the location where you think the noise is coming from. Pinpoint where its coming from.

It's better to use a "Redneck Stethoscope", i.e. a cut off piece of garden hose.

Thanks for the replies!

Well, even if I did this, I would have no idea what I was hearing, I don't know much about the workings of a car. I'm more concerned with the fact that if it is my fuel injector system making a noise, is it normal? The shop told me to not worry about it, but when a pretty loud noise starts coming from my engine, I begin to worry.

The injectors will tick as the motor is running and they can be quite loud.

Any chance you could get some video with audio so we could here it?
