i just bought a 94 3.3l 'trep a few months ago. i put a few thousand miles on it (its now around 182,000 miles) without any issues - until last week.
it was raining at the time (not a big deal where i live) and i had just left for work, and the car stalled in the middle of an intersection. the only warning i had was about a minute of rough idling. i pushed it to a gas station and was unable to start it. after i let it sit for awhile i was able to drive it aobut 3/4 of a mile down the road to a spot that i could keep it for awhile.
the car has a new PCV valve/hose, fuel pump, radiator hose, camshaft position sensor, and air filter box. i did the CEL-key-turn thing and the only code (other than 12 and 55) i got was 54, hence the new camshaft position sensor. upon replacing the sensor, the CEL turned off and hasnt come back on. i took the EGR valve out and theres no sign of damage. in the last week, i've started her up a few times, and it idles between 700 and 800. when i feather the gas to about 2000, it pings just below the driver seat (at least it sounds like it) and a little water comes out of the exhaust. if i slowly release the gas, the rpms drop to about 200 and then go back to 700, however, if i let go of the gas quickly the car stalls completely. i am able to start the car again after it stalls. additionally, the oil lamp on the dash is lit up, but i know the oil level is fine (i just changed it and have checked it numerous times).
i asked a friend if water in my intake or exhaust was causing the issue and he told me that water in the intake wouldnt come out of the exhaust. There were also a few times where there was a loud "pop" coming from the air filter box, but it hasnt happened since i replaced the cam position sensor. i inspected the engine compartment and found a broken ground strap. theres also a very potent fuel smell.
im new to driving and to cars in general, so any assistance you guys can offer would be awesome, thanks!
PS: if i could afford to take the car to a shop i would have done so already.
