Tranny Engaging Problems

I have a 95 3.5l trep. Th e problem I am having is mostly when the trans is cold but has happened once when the car and trans was had been running a while. I can put the car in rev. at first it works then when backing up then when I put it in drive it will not engage like it is in Neutral. I can put the car into park for a sec then put it in drive then it works just fine, no shifting problems that I know of yet

the trans fluid is red and full. I have only had the car for a few months and don't know much about it.

we only drive it short distance. less than 5 miles at a time. the longest trip was 15 miles one way and no problems

I would start by replacing the input and output speed sensors with new OEM parts on the transmission.

They are common replacement parts for intermittent engagement and shifting issues.
