new trans mount mod-no 56K

after installing my trans mount. then having it break on me again, i decided to fix it for good. the honda guys use 3m window weld to fill there motor and trans mounts. so i did mine about a week ago. i waited to see if it would hurt the car before posting. so far so good. the window weld seems to have just enough give, but is still stiff. you can get a tube at any autozone or auto parts store, costs about $15. so far the shifts have seemed stiffer, but not hard. and the trans seems to shift smoother at lower RPMS. here are some picture, i will make a how to depending on the amount of flaming i get.

wear gloves, this stuff is so hard to get off your hands..

You need to straighten that tube son... BTW ppl over at ToyotaNation have been doing this for a while too, and haven't heard of anybody having problems bcs of it.

Are there any diferences with a solid mount V.S. a non solid mount, I see some have a pin in the middle for movement, whats with this?, which is better? (example: Autozone "Anchor" w/ 1-year warranty" Mount v.s. Autozone "Duralast" w/ LLT Warranty mount, both look different to me), anyone?>

yeah that tube ending being half dry, we found out right after i took that picture.
see, but Honda and Toyota transmissions are not as prone to failure as the 42LE

I've done that trick on my old K-cars all the time. Helps extend the life of the mounts.

I just did this to my original trans mount, after my Anchor one failed after 3 months. I cut most of the old rubber out and filled it all with the window weld. I'm waiting for it to dry thoroughly and then I will install it. It seems REALLY stiff though, I went all the way to the edge of the cube part. Hope it's not too stiff.

I contacted RockAuto about the failed mount, and I am surprised that they said I am the only one to report a defect..

I'm going to do this for the daytona eventually, I'll use something a little less ricertastic than window weld, but yeah, great way to make a "poly" mount. let us know how it works out!

lol what's wrong with window weld? AFAIK it's a polyurethane with a hardness of about 55-60 (not sure of units..) Seemed to be comparable in price to casting poly available online. But yeah, you could do it a lot more neatly with a casting resin, just close off the space and pour it in.

I thought about buying a poly mount, but at 75 bucks, i figured I'd do my own. Plus, this way I get the good heavy steel and rivets of the original mount instead of the shotty jagged metal that Anchor produces.

That stuff isn't cheap though, cost me 25 at Advance, but with a coupon code, I basically got a free pair of those Mechanix gloves.. not sure how I like them yet, haven't used them, but they seem good for light work, good dexterity. I will use them when I install the mount.

Oh, and yeah be sure to wear gloves, my hands were black for like 3 days.. I had to sand them to clean them off, it really sucked because I work in a restaurant as a cook and couldn't show up that day with obviously black hands.

Here's my ultra-beefy mount ready to go in the car, and it is now in. It is not too stiff at all, the shifts are really clean and crisp, not sloppy/clunky anymore. Now hopefully that is the last time I have to change that mount.

Oh, and I almost forgot, now when I hit a big dip on one side of the car, the car doesn't try to flop like a fish anymore..
