hello, on the passenger side I have a wet carpet, the gray insulation wall is also wet but only in the red square.
I tested the door and sunroof gaskets. all ok and waterproof. sunroof hoses are free.
The a/c is running fine but I see condensate on the big black EVAP housing ??
What I've been seeing for years is that I see drops of water below the Pessengers side while driving - its not from the engine radiator! Whether the heater is switched on or off I see its droping.
The blower resistor was not screwed in. Can this be the cause?
Tomorrow I will check the EVAP drain hose, hope I will find it.
Coolant circulates thru the heater core full flow whether you have heat turned on or not (IOW, there's no valve to turn the the coolant flow on and off like it used to be in cars a few years ago). The cabin heat is controlled by vanes (doors) that control whether the cabin air is blown thru the heater core fins or bypasses them. So it could be a leaking heater core.
If it is condensate, it will be plain water. If it's coolant, it will have an oily feel to it when rubbed between the fingers, and might also have a typical antifreeze smell to it, though the smell isn't that strong at room temperature and lower.
The only reason you should have condensate leaking out onto the carpet is if the condensate drain is clogged up or the rubber drain tube is kinked. The condensate drain hose is difficult to see and reach. You have to get underneath passenger side of the car and look straight up at the front of the firewall - see photos below.
It could leak onto the carpet if the HVAC housing is cracked, but that is unlikely.
Photos of condensate drain tube:
• Photo on left shows looking up at passenger side of engine cradle (that's the rear cradle bushing at top left of photo), rear of transmission/differential (that's the passenger-side rear corner of the transmission pan near upper right of photo), and exhaust down pipe (that's the flex section of the exhaust pipe in the lower right corner of the photo) - you see the tip of the condensate drain hose at top center of photo.
• Photo on right shows the complete drain hose. Very small window to see it thru, difficult to reach with hands.
I don't think the blower resistor not being installed would cause water to drip. I don't think that hole for the resistor is near enough to the condensation. If water were hitting the resistor when it was installed, I don't think the resistor would last very long.
