transaxle id?

Hi folks. I was wondering if there is an easy way to tell if a transaxle came with its original motor? I'm sure I could tell by VIN number but would I have to call the dealer? Is there any other way?

There is no way to tell as far as I know.
I do not believe there is any ID on the trans
that ties it to that car.

What is it exactly that you are looking for on this? Are you looking for verification that it's the original transmission? And why are you worried about it? Getting ready to Sue someone on a 10+ year old car? LOL!

I got my tranny done this past week and was shown a rebuilt one they would put in. I have the feeling it's still my original. There's a symptom on this rebuilt one I had before. When it's really cold (-15c or colder) there first few times I stop and start off again, she struggles to go down to first gear and finally catches with small jolt. I've had my car since she was born and this only started a few winters ago.
I should have taken the trans serial number but didn't hence my wonder if it can be established through the vin number.

What year is your car? Early 99's needed a re-flash of the TCM with a firmware revision for a bump-shift problem like you describe.

Also, if the fluid has ever been changed and is not ATF+4, that can affect how it operates. If you change the fluid, the battery needs to be disconnected (by disconnecting the top cable at the negative jump post - requires 15mm wrench) for 15+ minutes to reset the TCM to the factory presets and then relearn from there.

Tranny shops are notorious for using the wrong fluid for these transmissions, and it *will* cause problems.

It's a 2003 2.7 Trep with 120k kilometers. Every 2 years I swapped 1 quart of old with new ATF+4 in the Spring when I do my oil change. Like I said it only bump shifts in very cold Canadian mornings and only the first few minutes while the motor is warming up. Unless this is normal for all 42LE trannies, I just find it odd that it's just like it was B4 I brought it in. The reason I did bring it was of P0871 P1776 and P0731 and going into limp mode constantly. That seems to be fix and no more check engine light.

OK. Being a 2003, no re-flash needed.

You might try disconnecting battery and see if it improves. Sometimes the learning can get off in the boonies, and resetting and letting it relearn can help (probably a long shot, but worth a try, plus during the work that was done, the battery may have already been disconnected).
