My car is going to be the death of me!!!

Hi all. First up, thanks to this board, it has allowed me to keep my car running as long as it has. Have and '01 trep 3.2 engine and we're trying to keep the car running for another 14 months so that my daughter can finish school. A couple of weeks ago, my cel light came on. Checked code, P1698. The first thing that I checked was for a blown fuse. Fuse Q was blown.
Cleared code and replaced fuse. Drove for a couple of miles, cel light came back on. This time no speedometer/odometer and all gear lights were lit. Checked code again; still P1698. I had a spare TCM in basement and swapped out. Cleared code and ran.
Car was running fine for 2 weeks then cel light came on while at work. Same code and symptoms as before. Disconnected the battery while at work and reconnected when I was ready to leave. Put in new fuse, the fuse popped. Put in another fuse, same thing. Had to drive home in limp mode. The next day I took out the output speed sensor; there was no tip. Replaced sensor and cleared codes. Ran Thursday. Same thing is happening. Cleared code then went to put in new fuse. Fuse popped without power. I am now stumped. I have time to fix it due this being the 3rd car but need to get it running by start of school year. I'm asking the intrepid gods and gurus for some assistance. Thanks in advance.

Study the schematics in the FSM (pages 8W-10-23, 8W-31-6, and 8W-31-7 of 2001 FSM if you have it - may or may not be similar page numbers of other year FSM's - but keep in mind that 2001 was a transition year, and some circuits changed from 2000 to 2001, and then again from 2001 to 2002 - I suspect this circuit is the same, other than the TCM being in the same box as the PCM starting in 2002 - without looking in each FSM 2000 thru 2002, I can't say for sure).

Fuse Q feeds the TCM and the contacts of the transmission control relay, which feeds the transmission solenoid pressure switch assembly. Something in that circuit is shorting out: A wire, the TCM (probably not the problem since you tried a 2nd one), or the solenoid pressure switch assembly. Trace wires - if no short, likely the solenoid pressure switch assembly.

Sorry that it took so long to post. Busy with work and all. I don't know if this was already said but Peva, you are THE MAN. Followed your advice on my issue. First, I purchased this to help in diagnosing the potential short: GTC FF310 Short and Open Circuit Finder and Tracer from Amazon. Saved me a ton of time. After tracing, it was determined that the wiring was fine. Conclusion: bad solenoid pressure switch assembly. The valve body is still under warranty since I replaced old on in October. Total cost: $38 for fluid and RTV sealant. Put in new valve body Friday and set sit until last evening. So far, so good. Will update next week to confirm that no problems exists. Thanks again.

Glad to help. I hope it stays working.

And if I'm reading your posting name correctly, it is clever. It's awesome!
