I have a '99 ES that my son just blew the engine in. Spun bearings and warped head. I'm looking for a plug-n-play replacement. I wish I had more time and money to swap in 3.5 or an RT stylee, but I don't have time or dough to make this too big of a project. Has anybody seen or heard of a 3.2l in or around Omaha, NE?
Thanks!

Unless you plan on downgrading to a 2.7 engine, your 3.5 dream will be plug and play with your existing 3.2. You'll just want to make sure and get a 3.5 engine from a 99-01 300m, LHS, or Intrepid R/T. Do not mess with the cars computer, it will only confuse things. The harness / piping / transmission mating / exhaust will all be plug and play for you.

I see you live in Omaha, I would check with some yard in western Iowa. I have seen many deals out there in the past. One I remember is a 00 3.5 with 87k for around 800 dollars.

3.5HO would be a direct bolt-in swap, plug and play, and about the same cost as a 3.2 lately. Car-part.com has been a gold mine for these engines as of late, tons on there.

Guy at the salvage yard says that the 3.5's from '01 and on were H.O. Anybody able to verify that?
I have a line on an '01 3.5l from a 300m. Could I be lucky enough to find this one locally?

Is there a # in the VIN that is code for engine type? JY guy is being a douche about going to look at the engine. What is the real benefit of HO vs. non-HO anyway? Is there a real benefit?

I did a search here and cant find a comparison. HO won't come up in the search as it is too short.

Salvage yard guy said that it's a "G" code engine. Once again, I can't find that in the search here.

Anybody know what specific engine that is. I told him it was for an '01 300m.

I don't think they made any 3.5 non-HO in 99 thru 01 years. So all of them should be fine. Your 3.2 is actually a 3.2HO because it also has the manifold tuning valve. In fact you should be able to use the 3.2 plenum with a 3.5HO engine cuz it's all the same.

The 3.5 HO just has 20 HP or so over the non-HO via the manifold tuning valve and computer programing. But you don't need to worry about that because you won't be using a 02+ engine anyways.

Yep, Yiran has it right. The only thing different on a 3.2 is the bore of the engine, all parts that aren't directly effected by that remain the same as on a 3.5.

Interesting that the MTV and a little bit of programming gives 20hp. I wonder how much is the MTV and how much is the wimpy programming the non HO gets. The MTV is a pretty wimpy piece of equipment, all it does is block off the two sides of the plenum at the front at certain times, hard to believe that little thing makes that much of an impact.

The non HO engines still got the SRV on the 3.5 didn't they, or was that coupled with the MTV. I could see the SRV making that much of an impact.

If the junkyard guy won't let you see the engine don't buy it from him. Jerks liek that would never get my business.

All 300M's had 3.5 HO's, I think the LHS did too. Intrepid R/T's had 3.5 HO's. Make sure to stick with your year range (`98-`01). My 3.5 HO was actually less than a 3.2 another yard had when I was doing my conversion from the 2.7.
