Trouble Code p1698

Can anyone help me figure out what this error means. I looked it up in the FSM and it says "No CCD/J1850 messages received from the electronic transmission control module (EATX) or the Aisin transmission controller". Now my problem is how can I fix this problem as I have no idea what any of this means. Thanks in advance for any help

First, check all of the battery cables and connections.

Check the plug on your TCM for damage, loose pins, or corrosion.

Check the power and ground supply to the TCM, (power will be fused and ignition switched, so key has to be on).

If the above checks out, likely the TCM Is in need of replacement. They are pretty cheap at the yard, I may have one laying around assuming this is for your 98 ES.

I will check all of that after work today. It is a 98 ES with autostick. I will let you know what I find. How much do you want for your TCM?

I'll let you know. I think I have bigger problems than just that. Now after you start driving all the gauges go dead and all the idiot lights come on. The odometer goes blank and then displays "no bus". When I do the key dance I now get trouble codes 1698, 1695, 1687. It seems no messages are being recieved from the TCM, BCM or ECM. I don't have a clue what to do now. Any thoughts?

Sorry...I should've said the Mechanical Instrument Cluster. Not the ECM.

Im wondering now if there is a problem with the ignition switch. Sounds like a general power/ground issue.

That seems to make sense. When you turn the ignition to start everything works fine but once you start it everything goes haywire. Sometimes when you are driving it will all come back on but not for long. How hard is it to replace the ignition switch?

Daytrepper you are the man! I decided the ignition switch was cheap enough to replace so I picked one up...$30. So far everything is working like it should now. I haven't driven it yet but it seemed fine when I started it up in the driveway. Even OTIS is again working like it should. Thank you so much.
