cluster problem no bus

my friend's car when he turns on the radio the cluster gauges wont work and his odometer says "no bus" i read around and someone said it might be a connection problem with the TCM? he just replaced the radio and then this started happening and the back speakers worked for a while and then stopped but i dont think the radio has to do with the cluster

it's a 2002 SE 2.7

the dealership said it could be a bad ground connection but it seems to be fine

The radio can communicate on the bus.
What kind of unit was installed?
Who installed it?
Have you worked on this car?

I have to agree with what you said Tom. Depending on the unit (factory or aftermarket) installed, it can communicate on the bus system.

To test if it is the radio or not, just unplug it while the Odometer states No Bus.

rear speakers not working could be caused by the radio as well (bad crystals).
