How reliable is the PCV heat exchanger. I have had the misfortune of dealing with rotted black cooling pipes on many vehicles including the intrepid. My concern is that this exchanger appears to be of similar construction. Considering it is filled with coolant and also has moisture laden CORROSIVE pcv emissions passing through it.......is it a part that is likely to fail...... and if it is should it be replaced or eliminated. My concern is coolant being drawn in via thePCV valve. Any thoughts or experiences......
Main problem with them is the PCV passages plugging, (which they were installed to help prevent)...but that is usually from poor PCV maintenance, especially on 2.7 engines. I have yet to see one corrode to the point of introducing coolant into the PCV system.
You really dont need it with good PCV maintenance. Check/Clean/Replace the PCV valve and hose at every oil change.
So the coolant pipe at the back of the engine already has the T that the heat exchanger has a hose that it connects to? I got the coolant bottle too just in case there were any extra outlets on there I wasnt aware of.
It shows my '99 2.7 with the factory PCV hoses (no heat exchanger), and the new hoses with the heat exchanger that I purchased to install laying beside the factory PCV hoses.
Yours may not have the heat exchanger - I don't think they were put in at the factory until sometime in 2000 model year.
