Highway MPG for a 3.2...

What should I expect for a 3.2l on the open highway(65-70mph)...... I've had my '99 for over a year, but only city driving (1.5 miles to work). In 14 months, I only put 4060 miles on it. Has 38,000 now, tranny serviced at 35,000. Great car...Thanks

My 00ES has had steady improvements on gas milage. Currently I have over 19K miles on it. Have done several trips to Ohio and Florida. I usually set the cruise control 3-5 miles faster than the posted limit. With car loaded (2 kids, full trunk) on our last trip to Ohio MPG was 27.6 according to the computer.
All our trips have been over relatively "flat" Interstates with very little stopping (food, fuel, potty, etc...).
Also, I keep the tires inflated to 35 PSI (still running the OEM Eagle GA).

Thanks for the info...I had to make a few trips to Syracuse NY from my home (145 mi each way)... The computer said 31 MPG with the cruise set for 70...Only me in the car and no stops along the way...Seems a little high, but I don't know

In my 3.2, I drive mainly highway but mix in a little city (90%/10%) and average about 26mpg. So far I have put only 4k miles on it but my highest average has been 29mpg with a replacement K&N and mid-grade fuel. I was hoping to get closer to 30-32mpg but for the vehicle being 4 yrs old and having 65k on it, I guess thats not too bad.

Anyone else have any pointers on how to achieve better gas milage? Premiuim instead of mid-grade? Run at a different tire pressure other than recommended? Thanks

heh.. my tires are rated for 42 PSI.. seems to help out a bit to have them inflated to the tire rating, not the car rating. anone know any info on that?

Ref comment/question on fuel grade: As I read the owners manual and comments read elsewhere, the car is designed for regular gas. The car won't run any better on a higher octane gas and you are really wasting money.
Ref comment/question on tire pressure: The owners manual and driver's side car door has the recommended pressure for the tire on the car. This pressure as I understand, is the proper pressure from both the car manufacturer and the tire manufacture for that particular model car. The manual says 35 PSI is max and recommended if you are going to be traveling at high speed. If you have your tires either higher or lower than the recommended pressure, you run a risk of tire failure. Obviously tire age/condition/speed/driving amount pressure over/under makes a difference. Much was made of this with the debacle between Firestone and Ford.
If you choose to go higher pressure, you gain milage but you lose "ride/comfort" and opposite is true if you choose lower pressure with additional higher tire wear. I would recommend you stay between the recommended 32 to 35 PSI. Remember this is "cold" pressure (drive less than a mile or 2).

First time on the forum so it's my turn to brag on my "Big Red" 00 ES. Had him for a little over a year and this is possibly the best car I have ever owned. Being a Mopar "virgin", I rented one before buying. Big Red must like me too 'cause I average a little over 30 w/o AC, and around 28 with AC. Mileage has been steady from day one. Mostly highway miles on the current 16K total. Inferno Red, Saddle leather, all options, including head turning and people walking up with compliments. Oh, did I mention that we make all the cruises and he's considered an honorary "classic in progress".

How do you check your computer for that?

Of course you need the overhead trip computer unless you have to do it the old fashion way, press the Step button until Avg ECO is displayed.

Play with the alignment. Try turning one tie rod slightly clockwise or CCW and see if it helps.

My 3.2 is very sensitive to slight adjustments in toe as far as mpgs. Just some slight manipulations is resulting in 35mpgs on the highway now. The instantaneous gas mileage readout tells you which way to go, so how can you go wrong?
