Another "limp" mode problem - P0700

My 2002 intrepid has the same problem many other peoples do; the transmission jumps and I'm stuck in 2nd gear until I restart the car. I get the P0700 code which is a general transmission control system failure. I've replaced both input and output sensors already. is it possible that I just need to flash the tcm at the dealer? The car sat for a year or so without the battery connected. The dealer said it would be 150 just to look at it so I wanted to try to fix it myself first. I just bought a tcm from a junkyard. What shoul I look at next? Replacing the tcm or flashing the one that was in the car? Or should I try something else like a solenoid pack?

with 02-04's failed valve bodies and solonoid packs are extreamly common. I would reccomend letting the dealer scan it with the DRBIII to find out what the real cause is . $150 may seem expensive but it is much cheaper then constently replaceing parts until you find out what the problem is. With these transmissions the DRBIII is the only way to get an accurite diagnosis of the problem.

I just went through the same thing. Vehicle Speed Sensor was bad, and I also got the P0700 code for the transmission being in limp mode. After replacing the speed sensors the car wouldn't go out of limp mode until I reset the PCM by disconnecting the battery for a minute.

Failed Input and output speed sensors are typical of 98-01 Intrepids but on 02-04's it's the solenoid packs that are the problem.
