Question Temp Gauge Fluctuations

Second night in a row during short 5 mile drive home from Amtrak Station....
Temperature gauge rises from just below midway point to high with little temperature symbol light, then back to below mid point and eventually back to "H", then lowering slowly again.

Had a stuck thermostat replaced this past fall by Chrysler after similar conditions and eventual purging of all coolant fluid on highway.

Is this the same issue starting up again or something else?

Checked overflow tank for bubbles?

Have good cabin heat?

Low speed cooling fan running?

When my water pump started to go, it would rise toward the H at idle then cool back down when moving.

We just did his WP and TB at Dans last May. Im leaning towards a catawampus T stat Freddo. Or a possible bubble. I know the Prelude did the opposite of what youre describing with a T stat that was stuck open. Sounds like yours is stuck closed possibly.

I accidentally left the hose from a PCV valve disconnected once, and it did exactly the same thing. Problem went away as soon as I reconnected the hose.

Hmm. I'm trying to figure out how to explain that.

I was out running errands with the car today and as an update...

Problem occurs while stopped for awhile and idling.
The coolant in the reservoir is bubbling mildly and intermittently rises all the way to the top then lowers a bit.

I've noticed that it also is taking longer for the heat to kick in and occasionally fails completely.
