Just got a 2000 Intrepid, needs some work

Hey guys,

I just got a 2000 Dodge Intrepid (base model) and it needs a little bit of work. I've done what I already know how but there's a couple of things I'm afraid of breaking.

For starters, there's the front reading lights. It's just this piece of tan plastic with the two lights in it, there's no screws or anything and the light "lenses" don't want to budge if I try pulling them out with a screwdriver or something. I need to replace the lights as they're dead, and I already have the proper lights, but I don't want to crack it and then have to try and find the replacement part. Has anyone replaced these before, and knows how to take the lenses out?

Then there's the problem of my mirror. My right passenger side mirror got knocked off by the previous owner (power mirror btw) and they gorilla glued it back on. The mirror still works fine, I'm wondering if anyone knows a decent way of securing it, as it's starting to come off and I doubt it will pass inspection like that.

I'm thinking I might be able to just put a screw through it into the car but I'd like to hear if anyone's done that before I attempt it.

Thanks,
-Colin

welcome,,, the lights are easy, the whole unit snapps out and you will see the light bulbs on the back side, just grab the unit , by the colored plastic and pull down,, then snap it nack in when done, as far as the mirror,, when i had my 2000 trep,, first thing I did was bust mine off also,, replace it, they can be found in most junk yards for about 10 bucks

When I did mine in my 300m there was a small screw by the windshield that needed to be done. They seemed to also use industrial clamps to clamp it in because you really have to yank on it. I mean REALLY yank. You have to watch your head because 1/3 the time you smash your head with the damn thing.

Thanks, armed with that advice I just got it off and replaced the bulbs, they're working fine now!

So a quick question that I can't figure out, maybe someone else knows the answer to.

Anything I plug into (the incredibly difficult to reach) cigarette lighter plug stays on after I turn the car off. I don't want to kill my battery - is there any way to get them to turn off without unplugging them? That wouldn't be such an issue except it's almost impossible to plug something into it as it is, anwyays.

I also ordered a mirror since the nearest junkyard is pretty far away in a terrible part of town, and it was only $30 (free shipping.) Thanks for the help again!

Look in the fuse panel (driver side dash end). There is a fuse, top right, that can be positioned for IGN or BAT. Move it to IGN.

I thought I'd upload a couple of pictures of it, not because people haven't seen a million of them, but I spent all of this last weekend getting out the dents (still a couple of creases I couldn't get to) and polishing this thing.

I haven't had it for very long but I already love this thing, it's a great car!
