How to remove the battery to replace.

again. . . its raining outside and i dont have time to figure out whats the best way to remove the battery so i can replace it. i do no it will probably be a pain in the ass. . . so if anyone could tell me exactly what it is i need to remove to be able to replace the battery that'd be good.

today i was driving. . . runnin arrinds. . . i parked at Pets Smart, i come outta the store jump in the car and stick the key in and turn it to start and all i here is clickclickclicklclick *DEAD BATTERY SOUND* - i havent had any previous problems wit tha car as of today (this battery issue) so im almost positive its a bad battery . . . mus be dry or somthing. . . plus wen i look at it thru the lil space visable of it the battery looks old and S**t.

anyhow any suggestions would be great.

Hey unique,

Sorry you're having trouble

You can read up on it in the Service Manual. The link to it is in my sig. Go to Part A, section 8F, page 12 and you will get the following instructions:

REMOVAL
The battery is accessible without removing the right front wheel and tire assembly.
(1) Verify that the ignition switch and all accessories are OFF.
(2) Turn the steering wheel to the full right position.
(3) Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable remote terminal from the remote battery post.
WARNING: NEVER GET UNDER A LIFTED VEHICLE IF NOT SUPPORTED PROPERLY ON SAFETY STANDS.
(4) Remove the air cleaner housing. Refer to the index for the location of the procedure.
(5) Remove battery splash shield. Refer to the Body section of the service manual for the procedure.
(6) Disconnect the heater blanket cord, if equipped.
(7) Remove the two short bolts from the battery hold down and remove the hold down.
(8) Disconnect the positive battery cable from the battery.
(9) Slide the battery toward rear of vehicle.
(10) Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.
(11) Remove battery from vehicle.

My Haynes manual includes removing the wheel and pulling the battery out the wheel well. I think If I could keep from jacking the vehicle and removing the wheel I would

Make sure its not just a loose connection or corroded connection first because it is common on our vehicles.

yes even when the bolt is tight the factory connections do tend to weaknd and lose contact i replaced both of mine try replaceing the cables if they are all crap and see how it handles

The last two times I have changed out my battery I have done it this way.
I'm as fast as a Nascar pit crew when it comes to changing out batteries & tires. ;)

Yeah make sure you check the cables while you are at it cause I recently replaced my battery and when I looked at the positive cable it was all rotted (corroded) from the inside.

Like has been mentioned already: CHECK ALL YOUR CONNECTIONS FIRST!!! Especially the connections at the jump points. They've been the culprit of many a "dead battery" diagnosis on here...

soooooooo. . . i took everything apart. .. and this is what i found. . .

got a ride to auto zone. . . bought a new terminal & some terminal protectant spray. . . came home. . . took off the old terminal put on the new terminal. . . cleaned off the battery (battery looked fine). . . rebuilt everything i took off. . . and about 1hr and $5 dollars later. . . my cars back in action. . .

Did you coat the terminals and clamps with a light coating of grease?

I bought a battery too when mine did this, but I took that sucker back as soon as I found out that it was just a loose connection. And I did spray the terminals with this type of contact lubricant to prolong its life.

yup, the spray i bought was a lubrication for both the terminal and clamps. as kc said to prolong its life.
