Wal-Mart tech comment: Oil & Trans Leak PTS TQ20/PH16

Anyone know what this means? I was 1/2 quart low before they changed my oil. Before anyone makes fun, I understand that Wal-mart is no place to get your oil changed, but I was in a pinch so soon before the holidays.

Anyhow, if anyone could help I'd appreciate it. The undercariage does look like there is a leak but it is hard to follow. Is there a usual suspect for where oil leaks originate on these things.

BTW I have a 2001 Trep SE 2.7L.

Have the engine degreased, as well as the under carriage(under engine + tranny), and then you cansee where you leak is at, after a few more miles of driving, just use GooOOd Degreaser, nothing cheap, ;)

that's a very good place to start. getting things cleaned up so you start off fresh then you can try to look for leaks.

I had a few oil changes done at walmart before. The first one was done 1/2 quart low, the second was right one, but the third is the reason why I won't ever again. They overfilled it and overcharged me since anything more than 5 quarts is extra, they left a mess both under the hood and on the front of the car, and they also lied about having loose tie rod ends so they didn't have to rotate my tires. By the time I got home and checked for the tie rods and then looked at the bill and saw the extra oil, they were already closed, so I was out there in the dark draining nearly a quart of extra oil out of the fucking thing. The whole reason why I went in the first place was because of time. Worked all day (as I do everyday) and didn't want to deal with it myself. And the mess they left? Oil must have been still flowing out of the hose when the pulled it out. Had oil down the side of the engine near the fill cap, along the side of the radiator and all along the front end of the car directly ahead of the fill cap. Oh yeah, and I found no loose tie rods and neither did the garage that inspected the car a couple months later. After looking at the bill the car was only logged in for 10 minutes, long enough for an oil change and nothing else, since they do the changes over a pit without a lift. The manager couldn't ask one of the two morons that worked that night because he had been fired. Big suprise.

I do my onw oil changes since then. I had always before but I've been working a lot more hours the last few years so I had a few done by other places. Not anymore. I don't change the oil in my wife's car but only because its a brand new car and figure let the dealer do it and they keep records of it and at trade in time, there's no question as to the service history. Oh that and the fact that my wife doesn't trust me anywhere near the hood of her car!

The name's Chris but the step-kids call me something much worse!

The most common place that oil leaks on the 2.7 is the rear main seal from what I have read and from expirence. Of course there are other places that oil could be comming from. After you clean the engine I would recommend putting a dye in the oil so you can pin point the leak more easier.(assuming that it is oil.) This leak can also be differential fluid. Did you check the top of your differential? maby it is just the breather. My crossmember was a little wet, my first thought was the rear main seal again. I looked at the top of the engine and it was just the breather on the differential. as long as you are not dripping oil on the ground you should be ok for now. Hope this helps.
