the thing moving, not sure technical name, roller rocker, some **** like that.
it only slides on the rail it doesn't rock between the cam and valves.

I don't get it. this thing was running beautifully a few weeks ago, I haven't even ran it and now ive got this noise.

and that slurping sound when trying to start up. like a vacuum just sounds weird.
oil looks clean and is up to level.
please advise.

Very hard to tell from the video, but sounds like lower end to me (rod knock/main knock); possibly piston slap; I cant say for sure without better audio. General rule of thumb, if its a constant slow tapping noise, only thing I can reference it to is a 1/4 note beat...lol...then its in the valve train. I definitely dont hear that. The rattle you hear when the engine revs, just as you let of the throttle, and it returns to idle, is indicative of excessive play in the rod bearings, wrist pins, or piston slap within the cylinder-- about 0:26-0:30 in your video. The same engine speed reciprocating noise that indicates lower end to me is around 1:09 and up.

I would start by removing the belts and starting it again to rule out any accessories; ie bad bearing in the idler pulley, etc; before going any deeper. I would also check the torque converter bolts, especially if you didnt replace them with new ones; they tend to loosen up very quickly if reused. I also noticed your a/c belt is about to fall off.....

This is completely normal. They will have about that much side to side play. They will not rock (without the engine running), or be free with either valve tension on them, or the tight valve clearance they have. You can turn the engine over slowly by hand if you want to see them "rock".

Not sure on the hard start; sounds like typical 3.5 vacuum to me; hard to say without being there in hearing it in person.

potential rod knock on my brand new engine....thanks for the wonderful news.

but you might be onto something with the torque converter bolts, the good sounding video I had 3 bolts and the view plate off, the clacking video I have 4 blots, torqued down with the view plate on.

the car also doesn't run. I cant drive it, it just stalls. I tried to move it forward a few feet today and I did, but it stalled in the process. also the idle seams to wander around from 500rpm to 200rpm. I have another video I'm going to upload to youtube right now.
