Interesting...

I also like how the review for the current model says that a pro is the cargo room, yet a con is also the cargo room. What?!

Thanks for the link.

Hmmmm...I think they are using old info. The next LX's are all going to be rear wheel drive (they say an outside chance for the Intrepid and defintely for the Charger/300N)

Also, the full size Charger I believe has been canned. Maybe we will get lucky? ;)

Ya the info on that is pretty off. Also the 4.7L HEMI they listed, which will never exist. And what was that about Chrysler Group's "latest financial crisis?"

Why do you say the HEMI will never exist?

I don't think we will see the Charger until a few years after the intro of the LX platform and if DC is making money.

I would have been stunned if one of the truck engines had ended up in a Dodge Intrepid. A 4.7L or 5.7L would not exactly be the model of refinment for an automobile, and the penalties due to CAFE and EPA regulations would probably make it prohibitive anyway. Any engine in the Intrepid would have to comply with higher emissions & fuel economy standards for passenger cars.

I can imagine them putting in a small V8, like a 4.0L or something, but let's see more modern design!

If the SUV's like the GMC Envoy can have 4V/cyl and variable valve timing, I'd say Dodge can do it too!

Well, I have heard that the HEMI will be 5.7L, which is around 353 CI.

hmm, I do not know what the market is going to be for these cars if theyput in such large engines. the most Intrepids I see around are base modles, witch means people are looking for a cheap large car, if they put all these nice features in with a large engine then those poeple are going to go buy a Taurse.

I bet it's going to be the 4.7 V8 after all. They won't make the Trep/300N a larger car to fit a 5.7 in it. I don't see that happening. Just making the existing 4.7 into a HEMI. Plus from what I heard the LX is actually suppose to be a little shorter once again. As far as those CAFE standards go, that's what cylinder deactivation is for.

Ah well have to wait until Jan 2003 to see it & Sept/Oct 2003 to buy it.

Wait? To see a 4.7L or 5.7L V8 in the Intrepid? I'll wait, but I won't hold my breath! You guys are dreaming!

Cylinder deactivation makes a small improvement but it's hardly a magic bullet. Between CAFE and EPA standards getting ever tighter and penalties getting higher, I highly doubt we'll ever see one of those V8's in the Intrepid.

Much sooner than you think, they're going to mandate zero-emissions! We might see some new, smaller 32V V8, which would be preferable anyway! I'd take a smaller 32V V8 over a larger two-valve design any day, especially when I know it was really made for trucks!

Having said that, I *would* like to see someone make a conversion kit that would let me put a 4.7L Durango engine in the Intrepid! But see such a thing in production models? Not much chance.

I would settle for a turbo kit (as if we could possibly wedge anything else into that engine compartment) though!
