Not sure if wiring or speakers

Hey, in my 93 Eagle Vision, my driver side (front and back) speakers come in and out whenever my radio is playing. Could the wires behind my head be loose to that side or is my speakers going on that side. Sometimes they all play and other times it's only my passengers side that plays.

It is more than likely a problem in the head unit - is it factory? Do you have a premium sound system?

Yeah, It's the stock Infinity Head Unit. Not sure if it's premium or not. I have a CD player on my unit but I'm not totally sure if it is premium. Its totally stock though.

The stock headunit is getting old, and will begin to have issues. I would start by running the volume, fade, balance, etc knobs up and down rapidly and repeatedly to see if you can clean the internal contacts that way and restore function. Also check behind the carpet on the driver's side of the trunk, along the wall there, and make sure those plugs are fully seated. Since it comes and goes, I doubt it is your speakers.

You do likely have premium audio, since you have an Infinity head unit. This means you will have an amp in the trunk.

I was thinking about replacing my head unit at some point in the future also and I was told that with the Infinity unit I have in there it would be difficult to do. And if cleaning the terminals and checking the wires in the trunk doesn't work will I have to try to get behind the head unit and see how the wires are connecting there?

Pulling the head unit isn't hard to do - you can check for those connectors though too, yes. If the radio is still spotty, I'd be afraid that you have an amplifier (either in the head unit or the trunk) that is failing. I'd guess up in the dash though, personally.

As for replacing it, no, it isn't hard to do. You just have to bypass the factory amp, or find the right wire to activate to turn it on. I don't have any experience in that though, never have had to do it.

Alright. I don't have any issues with my radio or CD player itself outside of not wanting to play CDs sometimes. My speakers just come in and out.

Yea, mine doesn't want to load CD's about 30% of the time, and 10% of the time when I turn the car on it says "Err"... but I'm just not an aftermarket kinda guy.

That's what mine does. It's getting better with it the more I play with it. Some CD's it loads every time and some is none. But when all my speakers work they are beautiful.

I'm no audiophile - I don't have the ears for it - but I'm overall pleased with the 1st gen stereo. Sure, it lacks base which some GM bring to the table OEM, and I'm sure the highs aren't super - but you also have the Infinity system already - so you've got the upper end of OEM stereos. I'm going to be doing a conversion to the same system you have, minus the Infinity head unit - I'm going to stick with the CD/Cassette combo unit.

Yeah, the more I read the better the deal was on my car. I got it for 1800 and I have the TSi with power everything and the CD player. I have had a few problems but they've been fixed. I made out pretty good so far. I needed a new heating unit but other than that I just need to get my speakers fixed up.

I would be curious to go look at the back of your car - get under the car and look at the rear suspension cross member - see if there is a hole drilled in the back wall of the cross member, just to the right (I think?) of center. It is like a 1/2 inch hole, and pretty obvious.
