Group Buy 2000 Intrepid fuel filter / pump

Does anyone know where the fuel filter is located and how to change fuel pump?

There is no external fuel filter. It is not replaceable and integral to the fuel pump, which is in the gas tank.

The fuel tank has to be dropped to change the fuel pump.

There is a factory service manual available here for complete instructions on removing it;

Dan - One of us is mis-remembering. I believe that the fuel pressure regulator is also built into the fuel pump assembly.

There is a regulator on the back of the fuel rail. Check valve in the pump.

From the 2001 FSM :

FUEL FILTER/FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR DESCRIPTION
A combination fuel filter and fuel pressure regula-
tor is used on all gas powered engines. It is located
on the top of the fuel pump module.
It contains a diaphragm, calibrated springs and a
fuel return valve. The internal fuel filter (Fig. 4) is
also part of the assembly.

From the 2002-2004 FSM:
FUEL RAIL DESCRIPTION
The fuel rail supplies the necessary fuel to each
individual fuel injector and is mounted to the intake
manifold.
OPERATION
The fuel pressure regulator is no longer mounted
to the fuel rail on any engine. It is now located on
the fuel tank mounted fuel pump module. Refer to
Fuel Filter/Fuel Pressure Regulator in the Fuel
Delivery System section of this group for information.
The fuel rail is not repairable

You can see it at the back of the engine in this pic:

There is also one on 2.7 engines, tucked in the fuel rail at the back of the engine.

Maybe its a pulse damper and not a regulator? I have always called it a regulator, and have never had to change a fuel pump in one of these cars (never saw one go bad), so never had a reason to really look for one there.

I just opened the hood on my own car, which is all 2002 under the hood, and there is one on it as well.

Reading on in the FSM it states fuel pump module contains both a check valve and pressure regulator...and has no description for what looks like a regulator on the fuel rail. So it must be a pulse dampener.
