hot air

I have a 2004 intrepid that has started to blow just hot air in all positions even when i try to use the outside air selection it blow hot air.

A/c is functional fans work compressor, i have stumbled on a number of threads on google where many of the problems relate to the opposite "blowing cold air" and suggest the blend door and or actuator acting up, stuck or replace.

would this be a similar problem occurring with my vehicle or is a temperature sensor involved????

Any feed back would be greatly appreciated

Thank You

the blend door module may be the culprit search atc or manual a/c control diagnostic on this site it'll tell you how to test the system and where to read the codes and what they mean

If you can find a way to reach your hand back to the 2 AC lines right between the expansion valve and firewall, have the air conditioning set to max ac, and both lines should be cold. If they are both cold, then u can bet that the problem is either in the blend air door / actuator or atc unit.

if the low side line is cold then the mechanical ac system is doing it's job. your problem is somewhere in the blend air system. could be the blend air door actuator, atc control unit, or plugged fins on the evaporator. the blend door actuator is the most likely cause of your problem.

Thank you for the quick response
I have no check engine light but i still plugged in a OBDII no codes showed up what so ever is this normal?
Also if you don't mind me asking since you sound pretty sure about the blend door is there any diagrams/pictures or how to replace.
Would using a bore scope camera through one of the vents show the door not working?
Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the ac system is independent from the OBDII so you aren't going to get any codes from that. There are codes that may be stored in the atc unit that can be accessed with a DRBIII computer (expensive equipment that a dealer would have). I don't think you would get anywhere with the bore scope because the first thing you would see is the mode doors that direct air to the floor, dash, and windshield. You may be able to do a search on the forums and look for "blend air door" or "blend air actuator". Somebody may have already made a how-to. If not then section 24, page 18 of the service manual http://www.dodgeintrepid.net/manuals/02lhe/02lhe.pdf outlines the removal and installation of the blend door actuators (PITA).

just found a diagnostic function similar to the key dance, but for the AC system (allows you to pull the trouble codes for the ac system). go to the same link, but go to page 4 of section 24 and it should lead you right through it. hopefully that will help solve the problem

I thank you for your info when you say atc (automatic temperature control?) Not sure if anything you've told me so far makes a difference mine is manual control.

Thanks again I'll check out those links!

sorry about the confusion. maybe i've gotten a little too used to having the auto temp control in my car since its a chrysler 300m. but i do recall seeing instructions on how to pull codes from the MTC head. look at the end of page 4 and all of page 5. that should lead you right through it.
