How To: Install 300M Special Turn Signal Mirror's

300M SPECIAL TURN SIGNAL MIRROR INSTALLATION

Disclaimer: These instructions are provided with no guarantee. The author is not responsible for any damage caused by following these instructions. Be sure to read through all steps before starting, use the right tools for the job and above all use common sense.

(Caution: This is a very large partaking and can take a person anywhere from two to six hours to complete. It is best that you have a buddy help you with this mod. Two people will make this job easier.)

This "How to" only deals with the installation of the turn signal and heated functions of the mirrors. The Auto dim feature and memory functions are not discussed in this "how to," however the wiring diagram is given at the end of this write up, for all the connectors and wires. For the autodim feature you need a Auto-dimming rearview mirror and for the memory functions you need 300M Memory seats. The turn signal and heated functions are universal in any intrepid. The pictures correspond with the step above it.

Items you need:
(2) 300M turn signal mirrors, one right, one left
13mm Open ended wrench
T-30 Torx wrench
Philips head screwdriver
Flat head screwdriver
Wire cutter, crimper, and stripper
8mm deep socket with ratchet
16 or 14 awg wire
(2) 10 amp fuse relays

Instructions:

1. Disconnect the negative terminal from your battery.
2. Remove the five screws from the door panel, the screw by the inside door handle, and the screw inside the armrest.

3. Remove the wire mesh cover from the door speaker.
4. Remove the three screws near the speaker.

5. Remove the two screws that hold on the tweeter cover. Take off speaker and unplug from connector.

6. Take off the door panel off of the door.

7. Starting from the inside edge of the door, gently peel back the black door insulation, until the mirror wire connector is exposed. Unplug the mirror wire connector. The connector is small and has three wires.
8. With an 8mm socket and ratchet, take the two nuts and one bolt off that hold on the mirror to the door, and pull mirror off.

9. Put the new 300M turn signal mirror in its place and making sure that the connector goes through the door to the same place that the old connector was.
10. Splice wires for power window. Here are the correct wire connections:

Driverís side:
-Yellow/black old connects to yellow/pink on new (common driver right/down)
-Green on old to yellow on new (mirror up)
-Red/white on old to black/white on new (left driver)

Passenger side:
-all three colors are an exact match on the new harness (white, yellow/black, dark blue)

11. Now comes the fun part. There are a couple of wires that you need to fish through the door. First pry out both sides of the rubber boot (labeled in purple with a B)that is covering the wires and wire connectors in between the door. A Flat head screwdriver works great in this instance.

12. The next step you can do in two different ways. The first way is shorter but is more difficult. The second way is longer but much easier. The first way is to keep the door attached to the car. This wonít give you much room to work with. The second way is to take the door completely off of the car. This is what I did and it made the job a lot easier.
13. Use a T-30 Torx wrench and take off the two bolt that hold the Door swing arm to the car (labeled in purple with an A). Next find something to put underneath the door to be able to hold the weight of the door when you take it off. This is where a buddy comes in handy. Take a 13 mm open ended wrench and take out the two bolt and two nuts that hold the door to the door hinge (Labeled in Purple with Cís). After the door is unlatched, the only thing holding the door onto the car are the wires running from the door to the car.

14. All of the wires go to a white plastic wire junction attached to the car. This junction in recessed into a hole of the doorsill (Labeled in purple by a B). The junction is held in the hole by four clips that are part of the junction block. Use a small Flathead screwdriver to push the clips (Clips of the Junction labeled A) in and take out the junction block from the hole in the doorsill.

15. There are two connectors connected to the inside of the junction block (Labeled A). Pull out the two connectors and take the door off of the car.

16. Now that the door is off, you can run some wires. On the drivers side door, attach a four foot long wire (either 14 or 16 awg) to the Light green wire that is attached to the new mirror. This is the left turn signal wire. Next attach a 25-foot wire (either 14 or 16 awg) to the Light blue/yellow wire of the new mirror. This is the Defogger/heat wire. Run the two wires through the inside of the door coming out where the rubber boot is. Then run the two wires through the rubber boot to the connector. There are two holes in the junction block that are big enough to run the wires through without interfering with the junction block. When doing the passenger side door, follow the same instructions only attach a fourteen foot wire to the Tan wire (turn signal wire on the passenger side mirror) and a 25 foot wire to the light blue/yellow wire (Defogger/heat)
17. Now go to the doorsill of the car and pull up the plastic cover that covers the carpet on the driverís side of the car. Pull up the three white carpet plugs that hold the carpet to the floor.
18. Now take off the plastic cover that covers the hood release latch. This is on the driverís side to the left of the pedals. Next use a Philipshead screwdriver to take out the two screws that hold it on and take it off.

19. Run the two wires that you just ran through the junction block through the hole that the junction block sits in and have the wires come out where the pedals are. Do the same thing for the passenger side door on the opposite side of the car for the passenger side door.
20. You can now put the door back on. First connect the two connectors coming from inside the car to the Junction block. Then put the door back on the door hinge and hand screw the two bolts and two nuts to hold the door on. Snap in the junction block back into the hole in the car. Now tighten the two bolt and Two nuts that hold the door onto the door hinge (13 mm wrench). Now put the two Torx bolt back in and attach the door swing arm. Lastly, use a small Flathead screwdriver to tuck the rubber boot back in so it covers the wires and junction block like before.
21. Now pull back the carpet on the driverís side and find the bundle of wires that runs the length of the car. Find the light green wire in the bundle. This is the left turn signal wire for the car. Splice the wire that goes to the light green wire of the mirror into it. On the passenger side, run the 14 foot wire that the tan (turn signal mirror) wire is connected to and run it behind the glove box, then behind the dash so it goes to the same bundle on the driverís side. Splice this wire into the tan wire that is in the bundle (Right turn signal wire for the car).

22. Now that you have the turn signal wires all set, run the two wires (one from each door) that are for the Defogger/heat to the rear window on the passenger side where the defogger relay is. This can be done by running the wires underneath the carpet, going underneath the back seat, up the passenger side of the back seat. Take off the plastic cover that covers the passenger side seat belt to find the wire connected to the rear window defroster. This cover just snaps right off. Now attach a 10-amp fuse relay to each of the two wires going to the mirrors. Then splice the wires from the 10 amp fuses into the Black/white wire that goes to the rear window defroster. This wire looks to be about a 12 to 10 awg wire.
23. Now just put the cover back on in the rear, put back on the inside door covers, the plugs that hold the carpet on by the driverís side and the cover by the hood latch and you are done.

CONGRATULATIONS YOU NOW HAVE 300M TURN SIGNAL MIRRORíS!!!!!!

- Edited to add wiring info for autodim and memory functions -
