I am going to get my multimeter back today. I'll check that both ways and I'll even look for resistance between the two pins at the coil end when its unplugged at both ends.

OK.
A. Continuity good from all coils to the correct pins on C2 plug.
B. N continuity from any tan/orange to ground.
C. No voltage on tan/orange when coils unplugged and key on.

But I think I broke the damn red locking clip when I was unplugging the C2 from the PCM

I am going to order the PCM from the guy on ebay.

I wonder how much a shop or dealer would get for the timing chain/ waterpump job?

Dang-it! When did working on my car become a chore and not an amusing therapy?

Most places under the hood don't even have room to access with my good right hand....

ive heard around 700-1000 for TB/WP imo its not to hard of a job but more time consuming and make sure if you do it, do it right. then it'll only cost u $80-$120

their are plenty of how to's and topics about it just use the search tool at the top.

edit: sorry read that wrong i know nothing of the timing chain

Of course it's a timing BELT... the timing chain reference is just my old school, slow and lethargic, cast iron V8 mental processes.

If I do that job myself I can afford new wheels and tires for my old 59 1 ton (i'm 3rd owner, bought her in '79)

I will probably put a zip-tie around the PCM at the C2 plug when I am done to ensure it won't loosen, pop off, or get coroded due to that locking pin coming out. I may even be able to put the little red clip back in (see photo). Is a little dielectric silicone grease in order at the plug interface on the PCM?
