Has anyone ever attempted to bore and stroke the 3.3L V-6 in an Intrepid? The Chrysler 3.8L V-6 used in some of the older minivans is basically an bored and stroked 3.3L. Can anyone think of any reason why this wouldn't work?
The reason I ask is that I fear I may need to replace the head gasket on my 1993 Intrepid ES with 129,000 miles. While I have my engine half-apart, might it be not too much harder to perform this change and add a little oomp to this slow car?

the only thing i would think is that maybe the computer will shit a brick trying to sort out what changes were made.
you have an ES with a 3.3?.....

I also have an es with a 3.3.....I dont know why it is an es, the only special things i have are the rims, message center, folddown armrest in back and power seats....everything else standard

computer should really have no reason to shit a brick, because the only thing in there that I could imagine being Mucho different is the Rate of flow for the air. and the MAP sensor takes care of that. Might be a little tough on the tranny, because the shift points are geared for the lower HP.

Well if that is the case all you would have to do is the reprogram technique for the transmission.

Besides the trans will learn new tricks when it's up and running again.
Personally, I'd look into Bagging a 3.8 from a Town and Country or Dynasty if I could. I think they will bolt in O.K. I could be wrong though. Boring the block is straight forward, but to "sroke" it you'd be better off getting the bottom end of a 3.8 anyway. That way the crank and pistons and rods are all correct rather than choosing a special oversize set.
What makes you think you popped a headgasket?

Why not get the head gaskets changed. $800 at your Chrysler dealer if you get both done. Then sell the car, and get a 3.5. You could put the extra few grand you would spend on mods into a better car.

on the 3.5, the head gasgets cost MUCH MORE to change than that. Upwards of $2000 from the dealer. how can the 3.3 be so much less?

Lafrad, you must be including new heads. Just to change the head gaskets doesn't cost that much.

Chrysler dealer here in town said it would be over $2000 for the head gasgets. They Said $700 for just the water pump. Parts alone for the 3.5 (head gasgets, other gasgets needed for chainging) are $300+ if you go all aftermarket. add in water pump and timing belt ($120+), tensioner pully (if needed, $50). Took mine to a garage instead, got the price down to $1500 to get it done (including Cutting the heads and cutting the valves/valve seats). Couldn't justify $800 and 3 weeks or more of my own work outside in the Cool wisconsin fall to do what they got done in 4 days.

I phoned my local dealer one time, and they said $800 to do both head gaskets. They must have given me the wrong info.

My mechanic is telling me $1200 to fix head gasket. Says coolant is leaking out. I have been experiening shitty power delivery possibly because leak of coolant into cylinders? Car goes to mechanic for further inspection tomorrow.
