This is in relation to my power steering hose leak woes. I finally go the right O-ring in the pump housing, and poof, no more leak. Well, *less* of a leak. Ah, HA!!! More than one leak, which explains a *lot* of where the fluid was going/not going....
When I was testing said O-ring for leaks, I had the hood up and the steering wheel cranked full-left, so as to have plenty of pressure going through the joint. What's that?!?!?! I see drips coming from the *middle* of the hose, when looking in-between the open hood and the cowl. Ugh.
After snipping the 'gauze' off the OEM hose, I found there are a half a dozen little 'seeping' leaks, all kinda in the middle of said hose. Interesting. I'm guessing it's from, the heat off the manifold, but hey, it's 7 years old, I'll live.
I'd like to smack whoever designed this, as the rack end just seems to disappear into never-never land, up against the firewall, and oddly enough, it freakin' *swivels* down there, somewhere. *That's* beggin' for trouble.... Ugh.
Anyway, the O-ring bit is *finally* over. I had O-rings which weren't *quite* thick enough, allowing just a bit of weepage. Even the OEM one I bought was too 'thin'. The hose I'm gonna 'fix' in the same way I 'fixed' my leaking tranny cooler lines...hose clamps, some hose, and rubber hose 'couplers'. $8 instead of like, $120 from MOPAR. That, and I can skip removal from the rack. I'll just snip it close as I can to the rack end, yet access it relatively well.
Oh, and this is just in case *you* have 'fixed' the leak, yet still lose fluid, but don't really see it anywhere. It *really* leaks when you have the wheel cranked to the stop, otherwise, it just kinda seeps a bit, and it's not in one spot, which is hard to figure out. 1/3 of a resevoir over the course of a tank, 400 mi., of fuel. Not horrible, and it's no longer the Intrepid Valdez.
