even though its winter here in philly. i wanna get it working by summer gets here. i though it just needed to be charged, but that did not work, so my moms mechanic said its a problem in the computer and he would have to pull the comp out!? ne1 know what the prob could be in the computer?
Probly not. If there wasnt a leak then its probly the condensor or something.
If he wants to pull the computer out take your car to someone else, cause he doesn't know what hes doing.
i checked the condenser as well as tension on the compressor belt. he said its definately something in the computer. i do wanna take it to get a second opinion since i own the car now.
Have you checked the ATC head for diagnostic codes? The ATC controls can pull some diagnostic codes form the body controller. Let me know if you need the procedure for that.
Or, perhaps it's just the A/C pressure sensor. The check engine light typically turns on if the A/C pressure transducer is out though. Have you checked your codes yet using the check engine light procedure? If not, then go here: http://www.dodgeintrepid.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9477
actaully there is a different procedure to check just the ATC for codes, here's what I found on Allpar for 1st gen ATC's
On cars with automatic climate control: To enter diagnostic mode, set the temperature to 75F, press the the off button. Press Floor, Defrost\Floor, Front Defrost simutaneously for 3 seconds until the temperature display begins to flash.
On cars without automatic climate control, set the blower to any speed, turn the temperature control in between warm and cold. Press Floor, Defrost\Floor, and Front Defrost. All codes will flash via the Front Defrost button.
When the test is over all fault codes will be displayed (on cars without automatic climate control, they will be blinked out on the Front Defrost button).
Code Action
23 Blend door feedback control
24 ATC mode door feedback failure
25 Ambient temperture sensor failure
26 ATC in-car sensor
27 Sun sensor failure
31 ATC recirculate door stall failure
32 ATC blend door failure
33 ATC mode door stall failure
34 Engine temperture sense failure
35 Evap temperature sense failure
36 ATC head command failure
Yep, those be the procedures for ATC code retreival from the BCM. I just wanted make sure he didn't have the A/C pressure transducer code set in the PCM first.
Yes, if the charge is good, first thing to check is the pressure transducer.
