Most of you have already had the fuel rail gas leak recall done on your 1st gen 3.5s. I would recomend that you check the area for any leaks or smell of gasoline. Friends of mine had there's done on a recall a couple of years ago and it just started leaking. The dealer told them it would be over $300 CDN just for the fuel rail. I said no way, that's a recall item, if it wasn't fixed properly the first time they have to do it again. So they called the Chrysler warranty dept which told them to take it back to the dealer and they have to fix it for free.
Every once in a while I can smell a good wiff of gas in and out of the car. I went to our dealer today to check on it and he did a VIN check on my car and found that the recall fix has been done once on my car in August of 99. Next chance I get I'm gonna take it in to be looked at to see if that is indeed the problem. I'd kinda like to have the injection system flushed at the same time but it would run me $99 Oh well, it would probably be worthit if it would give me more respectable mileage.
Excuse me guys... Everytime I fill up my car, the car stinks of gas until I get down to half a tank. Could this be that fuel rail problem? If so, how do I go about finding out if it was fixed at all?
And by that I mean, fixed at one point and is now doing it again?
I seem to recall there is a site used to track down the repair history of a car? My current paperwork doesn't indicate this, so, mebey it wasn't. Mine is a 97. Did that fuel rail problem exist with that model year?
I had a broken rail many years ago...right before the original recall. I had to fight with Chrysler to get it fixed at their expense. This week when my car was in for other work (see the precat thread), this dealer said my car was never marked down as having had the recall done. So they're doing that...again. And they are also replacing the injector O-rings (at my cost, of course) while they have it apart.
flowersc- Yes the fuel rail recall does include the '97 Intrepids and you can find out if yours has been done by going to your dealer's service department, give them your VIN and they will be able to see if the recall has ever been done to your car and when.
As for the rings that go with the spark plugs, which rings are you referring to, the o-rings/gaskets that seal each spark plug hole in the valve covers to the head?
What's a recall on a fuel rail, does it somehow says that it can be still under warranty ? My car is LHS 97, with 93 000 km, I bought it from a Chrysler dealer in summer 2000 and I had only 6 months or 10 000 km on warranty, so I forgot about it long time ago, so what's that deal with a fuel rail ???
I let dad borrow the car today, and I thought about it and went to check for any fuel leaks. Too bad i couldn't smell anything but burnt rubber!!! When I confronted him about it he said he'd cover 50% of the cost of my next set of tires if they are under 650 for the set. Muahaha! Dunlop Sport A2s here I come.
On another note i Couldn't find any leaks with my eyes. I'm positive This recall has been done because previous owners had this car in every month at the dealer for maintance done by the book.

Hehehe, I guess if I'm ever in the neighbourhood and your car pulls up along side but it's not you driven, I'll know he's gonna give me a run for the money.
