Now, this one was purchased from Shuck's, so it's a little bit different in how it's made, and the wrench sizes for the pump coupler.
The OEM one comes off easiest if you use a bending (spark plug) socket wrench with an extension, long (8") for pump, short (1") for rack, and one of those very cool open end 'wrenches' which has a 3/8 inch socket 'hole'. I can't believe how much skin these would have saved, over the years....
Be careful of the other metal lines in close proximity to the rack's PS hose attachment point. Had me worried, but all is well.
Old one is off, easy, but when putting the new one on, notice the rack 'bolt' is 18MM, but the pump bolt is only 16MM.
Much to my surprise, amazement, and joy, the rack end threaded *much* more easily than I expected. What I'd written off as a four hour curse-fest took me only about ten minutes. Those open end, socket-esque, 'shorty' wrenches *really* made quick work of it. Worth every penny, IMHO.
Based on the way this hose is made, with solid metal line where there was rubber-encased metal spiral line on the OEM (where it was leaking, not ironically), I found it best to actually attach it to the pump without it in the 'holder' which is bolted to the intake. That hose-holder "C"-shaped thing. You'll know it, when you see it. The rigid hose seems to tweak the pump fitting alignment off like a thousandth of a degree, making it not want to thread. Letting everything free-float allows it to match up, nicely. Plus, there is just enough 'play' to get it in the 'clamp' after it's all bolted up, correctly.
Of course, I've learned I need a pump, too, for only $96 (as now, you have to have more than about 1100 RPM for boost to be present, not good) so while I was at it, I ordered both oxygen sensors, too. Eeek! $55 for one, not horrible, but $75 for the other. Man....
Well, three hundred bucks is *still* less than what a comparible car payment would be, for *one* month, and this is a once, maybe twice, in a car's lifetime kinda thing....
Now, to convince my wife she doesn't need to be looking at the Crossfire which was being tease-advertised on the awards show, last night.... Well, if it is available with the new hemi, then *maybe* she does need one....
;-)
Good wrenching!!!
