Batter cable question.....

This post is sort of an add-on to my last one concerning my idle problems:

My negative batter cable has a smaller cable attatched to it. The small wires from this smaller cable have broken somewhat due to corrosion. What is this small cable for? And, being that it is now hanging by about four strands, would that cause any type of idling problems? I don't see how it would, but I do know that this wire should be more complete, or beefier where it is suppose to connect along with the negative cable to the battery.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hmmmmm.... I dunno myself. It just seems so odd that my car would go from running smooth to idling rough. I understand that you had idle problems Paul's96, right?

Last night I noticed that my rpm needle was bouncing between 700 and just below 500 rpms. This was coupled with the bouncing that I am getting from my car. Any ideas as to what this could be Paul?
