On the way home from work I was braking and heard somewhat of a clunk. After that, the car wouldnt go into any gear(R,D,L,3). I managed to get it into a parking lot by reving it up to 5-6k rpms but it felt like the car was fighting moving big time. When I go to put the car into any gear, you can't feel it engaging. I'm thinking transmission(I hope not) but what other possibilities are out there?
Called up my heavy duty mechanic buddy, loaded up his jeep with all the stuff we might need and headed back. Upon arrival I see the car sitting in a huge puddle of dirty red fluid. He traces the leak back and guess what.. tranny oil cooler hose blew off and dumped my fluid. Tightened it back up, refilled a good 7L of ATF in stages, and it runs better than before. I really lucked out this time.
Yeah, you lucked out big time. For anyone else who experiences tranny slippage....DON'T LIMP IT HOME WITH HIGH RPMs AND LOTS OF SLIPPAGE!!!!! Unless you like burnt/warped clutches and higher rebuild costs.
