In tracking down a code 43 (mis-fire) last week I ending up replacing the plugs, plug wires, and coil pack. The day after I replaced the coil pack the car started running very rough and then just died - at 45 mph! Turns out there is a short in the last 6-8 inches of the wiring harness going to the coil pack. If you wiggle the wire just right, the car will either run smooth or die out. I don't think it's the primary wire but rather a wire going to one of the three coils - effectively making it try to run on 4 cylinders As near as I can tell, the harness is original and has never been disturbed and I was very careful when I originally un-plugged and re-installed the connector to the pack. I'm thinking it may have had a potential short when it left the factory. Maybe something to keep in mind when trying to track down a rough-running code 43.
