I want to rebuild a '97 3.5L (1Gen).
My car is a 1993 Concorde 3.5L, and will be swapping into it a 1997 3.5L Engine.
I would like to know, if anyone knows, what the "cylinder cast number" means.
I looked on allpar.com and according to them, there are 3 different engines, cylinder/piston cast numbers for the 1st Gen 3.5L Engine.
http://www.allpar.com/rebuilt/chrysler-engines.html
Now, so far, I know that difference between 1993-1995 and 1996-1997 is, that in 1996 they started coating "stressed" parts with PolyMbdenum Steel Coating. Parts that were coated were pistons, crankshaft(?), cylinder walls and parts of cylinder heads. We all know that any year, any model 1993-1997 First generation engine parts are swappable and interchangeable. What is then, allpar and a few other engine rebuilding websites, listing as three diferent casts, as a matter of fact 3 different engines?
215LB - 1993, 1994 - Head Number #807, core dep. $199
215LB1 - 1995, 1996, 1997 - Head Number #490, core dep. $249
215LB1 - some 1997 - Head Number #490, core dep. $249
I would imagine that the 215LB1, 1997 is the one with Temperature coatings on it..
(Yes kids, Acura Integra Type-R engine has same coating.)
Now my question is; They are listing different years here, so If I was to say rebuild my 97 LHS engine, which is 215LB1 here, does that mean it wouldn't fit my 1993 Concorde 215LB? Suppose I want to swap the heads? Take the 1997 head and put it on 93 engine? Hm.
Help if you can.
PS:
Here is the link to a cheap rebuilt 3.5L. Cheapest I've seen on the Internet. Median price for our engines is usually about $2495.00. I have seen them on the 'net as high as $3,600.00. These guys here sell it for about $1,409 or is it $1,214? What is the difference "Premium Long Block" and "Economy Long Block." I'll probably end up calling them anyway, so you don't hafta answer that.. lol. Quality is a big question mark here though. http://www.precisionengine.com/g_engines_d_chrys.html
