My car has been stopping on its own when I am either taking off or coasting, but it always when I am going slow. After it quits, if I let it sit there for like two minutes it will start again but it never starts again right away. I have been reading some posts and it seems maybe it could be a cam sensors. What do you think?
Thanks

Anyone ever break a spark plug while changing them out?

Today I changed my plugs and cylinder 5's spark plug broke while I was trying to remove it. All I heard was 'crack', and I knew exactly what I did. The insulator split in two, and the bottom half was still in the tube along with some small pieces. I managed to get a few small pieces out(using canned air), but some of the larger pieces would not come out. I managed to get the new plug in without anything falling in(crossing fingers).

Any tricks to getting them out without extensive work?

Well, I did some repairs to the 3.5 when I did my 3.3->3.5 conversion - and one of them was replacing the timing belt. The original timing belt had one cam gear a tooth off... I want to say it was passenger side - but I don't remember right now - I'll have to look it up.

Anyway, I re-installed everything on the nuts, and it timed out perfect. Turned it over two complete revolutions, and everything was hunky dory. On driving it though, I'd get a flashing cruise light and other odd issues. I replaced the cam sensor, but no help.

I figured I had turned the motor backwards and skipped timing or something on the belt in doing so.

I had to moth ball the car for a bearing issue, but in preparation for changing the bearings, I have popped off the timing covers and took a look.

Crank:

Driver's Cam:

Passenger's Cam:

Now, notice I'm still on the nuts! But, what are the white marks on the timing cover - notice they are all one tooth off? Could there be a reason for this I wonder? Has anyone run into a case where the timing marks had to be off to make it run right? Could maybe the cam gears have been removed once, and just re-installed in a slightly random position making them about a tooth off?

Does NHogan remember anything about this engine?

I bought a new / used empty tank with the fuel pump and have already cleaned the tank out to make sure there was nothing inside it. The gas that was inside my old tank appears to of been causing the deaths of my fuel pumps since the car sat almost 2 years before I got it and it is causing the early death of them (Think someone said it was jelling up in the pump).

But still $50 for a full set of seats from a LHS, is that not a great deal or what?

Awhile back I shorted out my battery to my ABS heat shield. Ever since whenever my engine is revved, its electronics dim, and it blows the engine controller fuse (20A). I noticed after unplugging the alternator harness, the car can rev to red line without blowing the fuse. I also noticed there seems to be a straining sound coming from my alternator only when the harness is connected (its always done this, even before the short). I believe the short fried my alternators voltage regulator. Sound plausible?

My main question is why is my alternator making a straining sound with the harness connected? Also what is the relay thing that alternator harness connects to? What else connects through it?

Thanks

When I changed the bulbs last week, I noticed that the lens comes tight off the assembly. Not sire if that's normal or not, but made it easier to change the bulb.
Lenses are foggy and yellow, and repair kits don't seem to do anything.

A few months ago, I put a small hole in the trans oil pan. Not a big problem, but it's time for something with a little more ground clearance.

Spotted this today, $1475, needs a small amount of work. Right side mirror missing glass, passenger seat is torn, and the A/C has lost the charge. But runs good, and my wife really likes it.
Has a 5.2 (that's 318 V-8 to us old school guys) and a nice class 3 receiver.
If I do this, probably wont keep the Trep. Will post here first if I'm going to sell it.

Hello, First off I am new to this forum.
Anyhow my intrepid has decided to spring a small oil leak of one drip per day it seems. I counted from putting cardboard under the car to find the leak.

I bought the car with 119,000 miles on it 8 months ago and it now has 125637. I only use it to drive to and from college mostly. It wasn't till after a trip from Baltimore to West Virgina did the oil leak show up.

From the looks of it the oil is leaking from the passenger side from the timing belt housing or maybe around it. Its easy to see as its rather moist in the general area.I checked the bolts in that area and some were loose i tightened them but it didn't stop the problem.
Any ideas on what this may be and how to stop it?
