View Full Version : Whats everyones Average MPG readout on the DTE screen? MikeLHS 10-14-2002, 10:40 PM Im curious, because i bought my LHS a few weeks ago, and am getting an average of 12.2MPG as of 5 minutes ago when i ran out and checked. Im burning 93 premium in the car. IntrepidLHS 10-15-2002, 04:23 AM mine read 19mpg for the ten hours it ran after I bought it... theyre supposed to get 21/26, so I wasnt too worried... I would however be worried about 12.2, check your codes, maybe the o2 sensors are harming your gas mileage... TehKing 10-15-2002, 10:20 AM I believe I have a plugged catalytic convertor (sulfur smell) and/or blown O2 sensors, so right now I am lucky to get any more than about 10mpg in city and 19 on the highway. :( When the car was in a great state of tune I would get 19 in city and 28-30 on the highway. IntrepidLHS 10-15-2002, 11:29 AM yah, my intrepid has bad o2 sensors so if I get 13mpg, I'm happy. MikeLHS 10-15-2002, 06:01 PM Thanks. Anything i can do at home to diagnose the problem, if it is an O2 sensor, or must I take it to a service center. 1mz-fe 10-15-2002, 06:44 PM http://www.dodgeintrepid.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9477 look for check engine light and code 21 MikeLHS 10-15-2002, 09:22 PM Hmmm, I did that and it went straight to code 55, which is a completion of fault code readout. Im lost. jfsram 10-15-2002, 11:32 PM Just to be sure you are not getting readings from previous miles. Reset you Avg first. I have a 94 LHS 3.5 and straight highway returns 26-30mpg. Combined is low 20's. It's pretty common to see mid teens during regular use. Our regular use is my wife driving 7 blocks to my son's school and just a few miles to the grocery store. Idling with AC or heat smokes the Avg mpg also. FredB 10-16-2002, 09:49 PM My 95 LHS will get 26 and up on the highway depending how hard I push it. I found that the OTIS understated the mileage by 2%. I was impressed. FredB Paul's 96 Trep 10-16-2002, 11:22 PM Heat takes away from MPG?? Umm.. I dunno about that.. anyone agree? A/C,Defroster yes, heat??? Maybe I'm just taking what you said the wrong way jfsram. MikeLHS 10-16-2002, 11:25 PM Since I've gotten it i have been only putting urban miles on it, and the heat has been on constantly. Today my average was at 12.6 Im going to reset it tomorrow morning(I think i did when i bought it, but im not sure) By the way, thanks for all the help everyones given me so far. I took it to an AutoZone today because they have a 'free computer analysis" but all they do is the same thing i did, so i was outta luck. jfsram 10-17-2002, 09:32 AM Paul,, No heat does not take away from MPG. Maybe a tiny, tiny fraction since the heater fan is loading the alternator slightly. My reply which was not specific meant my wife idling the car in the driveway to warm it up for the kids. And idling without driving really kills MPG. Kevin abq 10-22-2002, 02:48 PM We've had the '96 LHS for a little over a week and the combined MPG reads 22. That's for about an even mix of 65 MPH and stop & go including shuffling cars into and out of garage (0MPG). DjPiLL 10-22-2002, 02:53 PM If i am doing city driving, ill be lucky to go past 18 average MPG for the tank. However if I do highway driving, i can easily break the 22-25 barrier. Kevin abq 10-22-2002, 05:34 PM DjPill, I really really like your avatar. Where can I get it? I belong to several international forums and I would like to use the same avatar you have on those forums, not this one. Thanks. DjPiLL 10-22-2002, 05:48 PM I cut it out from a World Trade Center photo. Kevin abq 10-22-2002, 05:50 PM Thanks. Got it! |
