View Full Version : LHS, New Yorker differences
jfsram 10-17-2002, 10:38 PM I have a 1994 LHS/New Yorker new car sales brochure.
The list of standard equipment is too huge for me to type.
The LHS in early 94 had everything standard except for leather and CD.
The LHS had 10 options colours, NY 9.
I will list the options that were standard in the LHS and optional on the NY:
Automatic temp control
Power antenna
Illuminated entry system
Overhead console. compass, mileage, outside temp
Infinity Spatial Imaging CD and cassette
Remote entry
Leather
16" tires and rims
conventional spare
trac control
and the NY had seating for 6, LHS 5 with center console and buckets.
If anyone would like any information from this brochure just ask me. I have lots of other car brochures too.

My car was built late 1993, it was one of the first 1994 models, hence, one of the first LHS'.
Automatic temp control - Got it
Power antenna - Got it
Illuminated entry system - Got it
Overhead console. compass, mileage, outside temp - Got it
Infinity Spatial Imaging CD and cassette - Just CD, with 5 band EQ
Remote entry - Yep, with alarm
Leather - Yep
16" tires and rims - Yep
conventional spare - If this means full size, yep.
trac control - Yep
IntrepidLHS 10-18-2002, 02:41 PM my infinity system just has a tape player, and I have a matching spare (think the previous owner got it, cause I dont think it was an option, otherwise it has every other option available except sun/moon roof, but I found a dealership nearby that will put a simple glass moonroof in for three hundred and thats all I want anyway.
The powered antenna doesnt work, but I bought a new mopar replacement, sittin right next to me.

jfsram 10-18-2002, 04:14 PM LHSer, of course you have those, they were all standard equipment. The leather and CD was the only 2 options available on the early 94's.
IntrepidLHS, I don't think any of us has a matching rim in the trunk. Matching tire yes.
IntrepidLHS 10-19-2002, 02:43 AM I found an auto-dimming mirror on ebay for 30 bucks that will go in my LHS nicely, Ill put a how-to (pretty sure its simple, jsut three wires) when I'm done.

Your LHS doesn't have one?
What did Chrysler do? Load up the 1994s and then decontent them every year after that.
Auto-dimming mirror is sweet. ;)
Kevin abq 10-22-2002, 10:57 AM My LHS (1996) owner's manual says the car has heated mirrors. Is this standard on this car?

Yep. Whenever you turn on the rear-window defrost, it turns on the mirror heaters.
Kevin abq 10-22-2002, 02:38 PM LHSer,
Thanks for the info. I just got the car and it seems every time I skim through the owner's manual or drive the car I find a new feature I didn't know about :)
Hey, I have a question. We just bought a '96 Intrepid and a '96 LHS and I'm trying to learn more about the model history. I'm slightly confused about the LHS/New Yorker distinction. I read that the NY was produced about halfway through the year, but since the LHS was outselling it 4 to 1, Chrysler dropped the NY.
What are the differences? Is the NY closer to the Concorde, or closer to the LHS? The warranty booklet that was in the folder with the manual has "New Yorker/LHS" printed across the top of the front page, so I assume the two models are very similar. Does anyone know the specific differences between the three models I mentioned? Thanks in advance :)
TehKing 10-22-2002, 02:45 PM The New Yorker is closer to the Concorde.
Really, the only things it shares with the LHS is the body and engine, both were only available with the 3.5L SOHC 24v V6.
95LHS 12-02-2004, 09:30 PM So one could find a '94 LHS with a cloth interior? How can this be?
FredB 12-02-2004, 10:32 PM Chrysler must have split the LHS and NY in 95 because my 95 LHS brochure makes no mention of the NY at all. It also says that the spare should be the same as the other wheels. Someone made off with the original spare in mine before CarMax got it and all I got was a rusty mini spare. I replaced it with a 16" steel wheel from Pep Boys.
Only 7 colors were available along with 3 colors of leather interiors. The only options were a moonroof, sound system with CD player and three kinds of mobile or cell phones. The windshield wipers are supposed to have a speed-sensitive intermittent feature. I've never noticed if they change with speed or not. It has the automatice day/night mirror; works well.
It had a white painted grille which I replaced with a chrome grille from a NY I found for cheap on e-Bay. Looks better IMHO.
If I'm not mistaken, the NY came with 15" steel wheels and a 6 passenger fabric interior with leather optional. The springs and struts were also different for a less sporty ride. Seems to me that they also had chrome trim on the hood and fenders where the LHS has paint. The last year for the NY was 96, LHS only in 97. Just my $0.02.

Imadreadhead 12-02-2004, 10:36 PM The last and first year for the 2nd gen New Yorker was 1994(they may have came out in late 1993 though)..The LHS also came out in 1994..and ran through 1997..then it changed body styles
FredB 12-02-2004, 10:51 PM The LH type NY was sold in the 94 thru 96 model year. The NY was dropped for the 97 model year and only the LHS was sold. There was no LHS in 98. It came back in 99 as a modified Concord and did not have a different body like the 1st. gen. LHS/NY. Just my $0.02.

mb-lhs 12-02-2004, 11:46 PM 99-01 LHS Have some differences from the 98-01 Concorde. The body may be the same, but the interior is different, the front end (grill, lights, etc) is all different as well
02-04 Concorde replaced the LHS, 02 Concorde is nearly identical to the 01' LHS

The rear is different as well. The LHS looked alot different than a Concorde or Intrepid.

Yea... Here's my LHS (and behind it, a '98-'01 style Concorde), and then below a picture of the 2002 Concorde Limited:

sayler2b 04-05-2005, 03:14 AM The list of standard features on the 94 LHS is quite interesting to me. I also have an "early" 94 model which lacks the following:
No power antenna
No automatic headlights
No CD player, but infinity sound with cassette only.
No autodim reaview mirror
No alarm
M. Par 04-06-2005, 05:09 AM Hey
My 94 Ny has cloth and 16chrome/alloy whls , not steel.
Jess my 2 cents as well.
Just new here so hope ya can bear with me.

PS. I got pwr ant, auto headlights, autorearview too
bolomiester 07-06-2005, 08:05 PM I have one of each. a '94 LHS & a '94 New Yorker. I don't know what was standard or optional on them, but here's what's different on mine.
Traction control - LHS, yes - New Yorker, no
Sunroof - LHS, yes - New Yorker, no
Contrasting lower body side moldings - LHS, no - New Yorker, yes
Chrome trim on front of hood - LHS, no - New Yorker, yes
Leather seat - Both have leather seats but of different design, and the LHS has front buckets with a center console and floor shifter, while the New Yorker has a split bench with column shifter.
Rear A/C - LHS, yes - New Yorker, no
Sound system/Climate control unit Bezel & ash tray - LHS, wood grain - New Yorker, matches dash material.
Everything else is identical.

Ok, Correcting myself:
99-01 LHS shares the hood, and maybe rear quarter panel sheet metal with the 98-01 Concorde. Rear sheet metal is very similar. The rear bumper is different, as are the taillights.
The doors, bumpers, grill, headlights, taillights, trunk lid, etc... Are not the same between a 98-01 Corde, and a 99-01 LHS.
Interior wise, the two cars have nothing in common, whatsoever.
The 02-04 Concorde has the EXACT same exterior body as a 99-01 LHS. The Exterior is identical -- Except for the wheels. Base model 02-04 Corde's had different wheels. The interior of the 02-04 Corde is the same as the 98-01 Corde.***
The Exception is, 02-04 Concorde Limiteds. These cars are essentially full blown LHS's. The LHS interior (which is also shared with the 300M) and the LHS Exterior.
IS300M 07-07-2005, 12:28 AM First Gen LHS/NY have some exterior differences:
LHS had Fogs, NY No fogs
LHS Body Color hood Trim, NY Chrome Hood Trim
LHS Had Rims, NY had Hubby's
LHS had Puffy leather, NY had Tight Perforated Leather
LHS had Wood Radio trim, NY had dash colored
LHS had Body Colored Grill, NY had Chrome Grill

From what i've been able to learn since getting my 94 New Yorker and reading up on the diffrent options availible to the LHS models of the day (as well as hearing about the two LHS cars from the first gen LH era that ride around where I live) i've come to the conclusion that the only diffrences in options for the most part were alot of things being standard on LHS that were only options on New Yorker.
Such as:
Duel power front seats
Leather
A diffrent front emblem (possibly, i've seen it on the 96's)
More simulated wood dash trim on LHS around the stereo and climate controls whereas my New Yorker simply has the beige colored plastic in that area.
And I would assume the LHS may have rode a bit better then the cheaper New Yorker.
IS300M 07-26-2005, 06:38 PM they went to the new style emblem on all chryslers in 1995 pre 94 used the pentastar
ronman 07-30-2005, 04:39 PM My '94 has a full-size steel spare, which looks an awful lot like a modern Intrepid police wheel....
