View Full Version : first annual DI.net International Meet '03
jhrody 12-29-2002, 09:48 PM 2 concurrent meets at the same time, same location:
The 2nd Annual Stratusphere Int'l Meet
The 1st Annual IntrepidNet Int'l Meet
CLICK HERE TO COORDINATE WITH THE STRATUSPHERE INT'L MEET FORUM FOR CARAVANS, ETC..... (http://forums.stratusphere.org/index.php?act=SF&f=14)
this info will probably be tweaked over the next few weeks........
April 11-13, 2003
Friday, April 11-
afternoon/evening- come whenever and check into your hotel of choice. The main party will be at the Courtyard by Marriot (Elmhurst, IL), though. Check the front lobby.
Saturday, April 12-
11:00am-?- show and shine, lunch, dinner and beer at Strats Drive-In (Villa Park, IL). So far it looks like we will have more than enough trophies to go around. More classes and trophies than last year. Door prizes as well. Classes will be determined. Note: the 2nd annual Stratusphere International Meet will be running concurrent with the 1st annual IntrepidNet Int'l Meet---same location, but in a different area, separate classes, separate trophies. [i] We will be judged by 3 judges from their group and 3 judges from our group will judge them. Trophies will be around 4-5pm and then it's dinner time. [i]FYI- Strats may have a 3rd location open (bigger building and lot) by the time this happens.....it may be better yet
Sunday, April 13-
9:00am- 10:30am- Strats is opening up just for us, so we can have breakfast--- scrambled eggs, omlettes, ham, french toast are the possibilities Strat mentioned.
10:30am-12:00noon- caravan up to Byron Dragway (Byron, IL). We will enjoy our fastest possible times at this track, due to the superior surface and slightly downhill grade. We will enjoy a gravel pit area and grass berm to relax on as well.
12:00noon-?- runs for ET's. Possibly maybe even a JA vs. LH tournament for bragging rights. There are a few JA-only grudge matches brewing that will be done. We'll leave as a group when we get tired of it.
late afternoon- eat, leave Chicago or whatever you have to do. This is the time for smaller groups or however it works out.
IntrepidXJ 12-29-2002, 09:50 PM come on guys...lets get this going :)
i'll be working on updating the info as well in the near future.
I'm guessing this is somewhere in IL?

jhrody 12-29-2002, 09:55 PM Strats is in Villa Park, IL.....the dragway is in Byron, IL

vladig 12-29-2002, 10:03 PM Maybe I'll have some one else drive my other LHS so I'm not lonely, but thats OK I've been the only one at Byron before with Club GTP, and the I-Club, so I'm use to it :)
hosler95 12-29-2002, 10:42 PM hey guys, is it ok if a '93 Ford Crown Vic shows up?? I used to own a '95 'trep before it got totaled in a 6 car accident

Nice, I am going to be there in full force as always. Man, I am going to have to do a lot of stuff to the car before the meet. Ahh, so great we got a nice big notice this time. Come on, lets see how many people we can get to come. I am going to be there, hopefully with a digital video camera so as to get all of the action.
jcman311 12-30-2002, 03:49 AM I'll be there.... And maybe post this on the main page as this get closer so everyone sees it.
I'm all giddy

EvilDeadFan 12-30-2002, 03:39 PM Wow, this is all very interesting, I hope a lot of us show up!
YB Normyl 12-30-2002, 05:32 PM EDF, does that mean you're going?
viprman 12-30-2002, 05:54 PM I am 99% sure I can make it. I don't think I will do all three days though. My Trep isn't show quality anyway. I would just be there to be there. :D
FunkRider 12-30-2002, 06:42 PM My car isn't show quality anymore either. Some F*ck hit it in a parking lot and i can't afford to get it fixed. Its not bad, and not really noticable, but not show quality anymore.
mobbdeep 12-30-2002, 08:13 PM you can count me in ...I canot wait to finally meet all the guys on this board .....
Knightmare 12-30-2002, 08:41 PM I am so looking forward to this meet. Yes, Alex, that means I plan to show up. I'll try to see if I can get out of school on Monday so I can make it all three days. By that time it'll be fourth quarter, so I will be taking slacker classes anyway. Shouldn't be a problem. I just hope the snow lightens up around here by then so I can get the wheels on before the meet :).
MeanGreen 12-30-2002, 08:57 PM I wanna go too... knowing the weather here though, by the time I get there my beautiful car will be all filthy. :( But it seems like a lot of fun... are our plans the same as stratusphere's?

P3 if you go be prepared to race me..... thats if both our treps dont crap out on us getting there:)

IntrepidLHS 12-31-2002, 01:27 AM I just might have my LHS by then!!!

if ya dont mind bringing a few drunk Stratus owners as well....We need a new drunk guys taunting ducks video. I think last year there were 6 or 7 drunks packed into a Stratus and caught on video being stupid. It can be even more entertaining with more people inside a bigger vehicle.:D

Ioannes 12-31-2002, 10:30 PM So this kicks ass, If I go this will be the 1st Trep meet for me. As far as show quality, my trep probably has the least mods of anyone here, but I will be there if I can...
My only ? is since most of us seem to be driving c.500 miles or more (from arkansas here), will there be a possibility that some time/place will be determined so that we can get our cars back into immaculent condition again?

That is how Strats meets are normally are from my experiences with them. Last time I went to Strat's Drive in there was a Cougar club and other miscellaneous cars along with the DI.Net and Stratusphere members.
YB Normyl 01-01-2003, 12:25 AM I think it's a great concept, imagine the ideas we can get from from the Strats and vice versa.

there is a "do-it-yourself" car wash right down the street from Strat's and the hotel.
There is also an amoco not too far away with a hands free kind of deal. It's $8 bucks for a wash and wax, I do that for every meet and it comes out rather decent. Now then, as for the do-it-yourselfers, I am going to be bringing along that thing you see on tv with the spinning rubber mop sort of deal that rotates as it spreads water and soap all over the car if someone wants to use that thing.
MeanGreen 01-02-2003, 09:39 AM LOL LOL... Imagine the looks on people's faces as a whole crowd of LH's (and Stratus's I bet) descend on the poor carwash...hehhe
YB Normyl 01-02-2003, 11:56 AM Poor? It'll be a good day for the car wash $$$$$ :)
mobbdeep 01-02-2003, 12:45 PM Anyone got us a rate yet on the hotel ...Anyone called about a group discount....I know that last year Stratusphere had a discount rate but have anyone on here down this yet..???

Id consider this... but wouldnt it be costly?
2001RT 01-02-2003, 03:17 PM It was really just a joke... A 14' U-Haul truck could probably handle pulling two cars but would be a couple hundred buks alone. The tricky part would be finding a trailer for two cars...
I was originally thinking about trailering the trep out to the meet but I thought that putting the mileage on it might be worth it for the fun of a road trip.
How about we set up a meeting point off of Route 80 in Eastern PA. We could get a bunch of folks from the tri-state area to meet there and have a caravan to Illinois! Be like Smokey and the friggin Bandit!!! That would be WAY cool...
DjPiLL 01-02-2003, 03:21 PM Maybe.... this is something I probably wont decide till March or so. Thats a lot of miles to put on the trep. I already made a road trip a few months ago to a buddy's house down south.
I was thinking about doing the last jrhody meet... but I wasnt up to it. Who knows, maybe ill want to do it.
2001RT 01-02-2003, 03:35 PM Thought maybe I had a conflict with something going on the week prior, but since I checked the date, I don't. I'm pretty sure I'll go - I think it'll be awesome... Leave from the East in the wee hours Friday and come back Monday morning... Maybe I'll even let Danny (10 years old) cut out of school so he can go...
I think a caravan would be really cool. There will be a ton of people using Route 80... We could have the first meet-up spot be in Eastern PA. If we have estimates of where we'll be when, we could stop at certain places and join up with people getting on 80 further West. How cool would it be for us to roll into town with 100 cars?!
later..
Man, if you are going to take a van, I know a couple of members I wanted to come who don't want to put a lot of miles on their car. I am really looking forward to see 2001RT's car, one of the best stock looking cars on the site, paint, tires, and wheels go oh so well together.

if youre talking about the meets I previously put together at Strat's, that is the way I planned them. Although we are just talking JA and LH clubs for this one (or these 2 concurrent meets for that matter). Normal shows at Strat's Drive-In (planned by the owner) are for the V8 crowd.

I might think about going Rich....If I do I want to take the Dragon down there. I might need some people to ride with for driving shifts and company. It is still up in the air right now though. It is exactly 934 miles from my door to the door of the hotel

How can we 'organize' some of these convoys? You have location information on members, but the member listing doesn't sort by location or allow searching on location.
I'd like to get a convoy going that would have tri-state (NY, NJ, CT) people meeting in Eastern PA on Route 80. We would then make stops along the way (West PA, Ohio, MIchigan, Indiana) and 'pick up' other people and hopefuly roll into tow with a bunch of treps!
Any ideas?
Thanks - John

your best bet would probably be starting a new thread in this forum, and maybe on stratusphere to get people from your area who are going coordinated. list your idea above in that thread and go from there.

We are in the process of setting up some caravans so that we can meet along I80.... from the East Coast (NY/NJ/CT/MA/ME and PA/DE/MD/VA) The NY caravan is coming down 81 to 80 and the MD group is coming across 76 to 80.... We are trying to see where we should meet up and combine caravans.... Either way you guys will either see us or hopefully have something setup so we all can meet and roll together....
1 thing for sure you will not be able to mistake my car.... Even if I end up getting it repainted....

I'm setting up a caravan that will start on I-80 at the Delaware Water Gap - just inside Eastern PA. I'm anticipating leaving from there around 6:00 AM on Friday April 11. Try to hook up! Gotta love George C and the P-Funk.
My brother went to a concert at Penn State College and George and the P-Funk played so long that they were getting kicked out of the building! I am sure if they let him he would have played for 12 hours. As it was, the concert was over 4 hours or something crazy.
Knightmare 01-13-2003, 07:23 PM Yes! Only George Clinton!
/me will have to bring hs CD's along for the meet :).
CD's..........
Hmm, I am going to have to start burning sometime soon.
jackel440 01-14-2003, 02:56 AM this meet is soundiinngggg so cool I just wish i had a trep to drive to it.how about my 96 ram 3500 with smoke stacks.
may the cruising begin!!!!!
crash459 01-14-2003, 10:00 AM Is anyone going from MA.....I am going to try to make it but it is up in the air right now. If I do, My friend Dave and I will be taking my trep.
BTW I saw George Clinton and the P-Funk in Providence in 1998......played for five hours and loved every minute of it
RCE2WIN 01-23-2003, 05:49 PM Mapquest says 300 miles in 5 hours from here to there....bet i could beat that. I'll check and see, i think that's my spring break, could be fun. I love to drive and sounds like there will be a ton of people there. Anyone know if there are any good campsites around there?

None I know of...this is a urban area...closest camping would probably be an hour or so away...maybe starved rock?
Campsites, hmm, I am thinking maybe, the closest would be northern suburbs, (ie. Glenview, Northbrook, Skokie:D etc). Which are anywhere from half an hour to an hour away.

Dude - people are coming from a lot further than Virginia. Be there! You don't wanna miss this one...
viprman 01-24-2003, 10:47 PM Camping at that time of year is going to be pretty cold. It has been known to snow as late as May in this area. I would say that the temperatures would easily be in the 40's at night. I would suggest trying to save a couple of bucks over the next three months for a hotel room.
Well, I drove by the meeting place (hotel) earlier tonight, and did take note of a few things that I had forgotten since last I was there. First, lots and lots of rice buzzing around, second, the hotel that people will be stayng at has a small lobby, and third, the roads are nice and well paved, AND the speed limit is, at least, 45. Should be a lot of fun when the meet comes around.

there is camping at Blackwell Woods in Warrenville, IL...about 10 miles southwest of Strat's and the hotel.

Don't forget about the "upper lobby" of that hotel.. Thats probably 2 or 3 times as big as the lower lobby and its got lots of chairs/tables/TV.. Thats where everyone sat around saturday night and sunday morning last year for the stratusphere meet..
How is the hotel in regards to noise and such?

Why do you ask? Do you plan on making some noise with a DI.Net co-ed and don't want the neighbors to hear? :p
IntrepidXJ 01-30-2003, 08:46 PM we were pretty noisy and rowdy last year. we never got kicked out or anything

Last year one of the stratusphere members got a little too hammered for his own good, saw a goose that hissed at him and went on for probably 20 or 30 minutes in the hotel lobby about how this duck hissed at him.. there's video of it and everything :D

I'll be the one wearing the 'DCREPID has an OTIS?' T-Shirt :)

And the second is money, I could probably get enough to go but then prom is also coming up.......also very expensive. And I also need money to get my 1997 Eclipse GSX.......so I'll think about it some more, and if I don't go......I hope someone takes lots of pics.
IntrepidLHS 02-25-2003, 10:36 PM Ok, I live in Sullivan Missouri, I would be driving on I-44 straight to St. Louis then straight up to Chicago, but I am horrible with organizing times, and planning and all that crap, is there any dinet members with nonrunning LH's or somethin that wanna ride up with me or are on the way, and can do the planning if I provide the gas and driving?
IntrepidLHS 02-25-2003, 10:42 PM I can probably go, do you think I can do it on less than 400 bucks?
stevedemon 02-26-2003, 04:02 AM Originally posted by IntrepidLHS

Hell, ya, man. You'll only need $140 max for the room (I say $140 because I expect taxes and what have you to be added on at check out) and whatever else you'll need for food, beer, and gas. I figure, you've got a several hundred mile trip ahead of you, so you'll probably need about $100 for gas to and from. I figure you'll need at least $300, depending on how heartily you plan on eating. Things easily get cheaper when you start doubling up on a room, so you may want to consider that. This should be a fun meet, so you don't want to be kicking yourself if you miss it
IntrepidLHS 02-26-2003, 03:23 PM what about competition and the racing? whats that going to cost?
I'm bringing a friend to work as my navigator, but I gotta pay for the gas and the room, hes just going to pay for his own food'n'stuff. By the meet I'll have my car, autodimming rearview mirrio, chrysler visor plaques, PIAA headlights and fogs, transmisison cooler, K&N aircharger, chrome swiznitches and my Panasonic MXE CQ-DFX983U headunit. I'll be using the factory amp and speakers when I get there though... but oh well, I had to chose between my system, or the meet, and wait on the system.
This meet, like every meet, is going to be just plain awesome! Racing, I believe, is $30 bucks?
ChicagoTRS 02-28-2003, 11:16 AM well...I am definitely there! Had a business trip scheduled for that weekend but just found out it was rescheduled for a few weeks later. Can't wait to see all of the treps...this is going to be an awesome meet.

It is mainly a social gathering and just to show off and check out each others cars. No cars are really show cars...there is an entry fee if you want to compete for a trophy or whatever else they are giving out. I would encourage you to come and just park your trep with the rest of ours and hang out. Kind of cool to look at others cars and see what people can do to them or play count the mods on Randy's car (if you stop at under a 100 you are to low =)).

IntrepidLHS 03-02-2003, 03:58 PM Try not to start the show till about 10, thats when I'll show up, unless I can talk my "navigator" into getting off work early.
The cars usually start piling in around 9-10am'ish, and with the exception of a few sleepless souls, such as myself, you can expect the parking lot to be pretty much filled by 11, if that.
IntrepidLHS 03-02-2003, 04:15 PM I mean, i wont be able to get there till like 10 PM friday night.
YB Normyl 03-02-2003, 05:01 PM Well if I can make it, at 9-10am'ish Saturday I should be sleeping in the car or just waking up. Or are we talkin 9-10am'ish Friday?
No no no, Saturday morning. Friday is just in the evening hours in the hotel lobby, at least according to the 1st post in this thread.
Turbo 03-02-2003, 05:15 PM So is anything going to be going on Friday night, bar hoping or something? If so I get off of work around 11pm. Otherwise I'll be there Saturday morning around 9 or 10 am.

You can go to http://www.wundeground.com and type in the city name, Villa Park, IL and then when it comes up, find the option for seeing weather history and look at last year and the year before that, and so on, last year, and the year before that, it didn't rain.

My Michigan drivers license has been revoked! :) And to think that I didn't know I had a Michigan drivers license :P Last I checked, the USA still does not have roadblocks checking papers at state borders... :) However, if you were to get pulled, you could find that there's a bench warrant for your arrest in Michigan. In that situation, I think the cop would be required to bring you in.
I'd suggest calling the municipality you got the ticket in, arrange to plead guilty and send them a check.
I'm not a lawyer - this is just based on personal experience! ;)
ezmart 03-05-2003, 01:59 PM or... if the cop tries to pull you over, you could step on the gas and make a run for it? lol... i don't recomend that idea... but... it IS an option.

viprman 03-06-2003, 09:35 PM I don't know about city versus state infractions thing. Maybe it has to do with whether a state patrol car pulls you over versus a city cop. I don't know. I never got a speeding ticket.
IntrepidLHS 03-06-2003, 11:59 PM The state that issued the ticket has to pay to have you sent to their jurisdiction, if they dont want to pay, and fell it isnt worth the money, then you're let go, if they do decide it is worth it to pay for you to be brought to them, then they can.
Avenger 03-07-2003, 07:19 PM Well for $100 I don't think that they'll bother :p .......OK I'm coming! :)

creepingdeath 03-10-2003, 10:46 AM The thing that scares me is that this winter was very dry for precip. for the wisconsin and northen Ill. area. Now we've had like 6-8 inches of snow the last week and a half. I hope this shit ends soon. Or we'll have a late winter surge. The good thing is that spring starts the 21st of March and the average high for april if 54 (in WI.) BTW, the Farmers Alminac indicates that this summer will be one of the hottest in a long time.
jcman311 03-10-2003, 07:49 PM Last summer was freaking hot... 20+ days above 90, it was the hottest summer in a long time.
We met you in the fall though.
jcman311 03-10-2003, 10:33 PM wtf??? Did i miss something?

there will not be a sound competition. however, that doesn't mean you won't be able to show off your system
FunkRider 03-21-2003, 01:36 AM Grrr... I may have to end up comming down saturday morning and leaving the same night. But i'll be there!
MeanGreen 03-24-2003, 05:14 PM what's with the rooms being all sold out!
Ah well, mine's reserved (across the hotel from everyone else) so i'll be there!
ChicagoTRS 03-24-2003, 05:52 PM There has to be a few dozen more hotels within a few minutes drive...
There's a holiday inn express maybe a mile or two away, i stayed there once last year. It was a decent hotel and pretty cheap too :D
Here is a link to the hotels in the city, scroll to the bottom below all the "sponsored" listings. Hotels In Elmhurst (http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypResults.py?&stx=7737307&stp=y&top=1&city=Elmhurst&state=IL&country=us&msa=1600&slt=41.899139&sln=-87.938278&cs=4)

Avenger 03-30-2003, 09:22 PM I got it, don't bother everyone else looking for a room (I am looking for another roommate or 2 though) :D

Hmmm, roommate or two, let's see, 2 x double beds= 4 - Avenger = 3 So who are you sharing the bed with? G/f? :)
Avenger 03-31-2003, 06:58 PM LOL, just as long as noone kicks me I don't care if I have 3 roommates. 3 Roommates = 4 player SSBM/Halo/Rallisport/NHL2K3 (I will be bringing 2-3 game systems :D)
I still have to decide which ones though (I think I'm gonna bring the PS2 to play 6 player GT3, Xbox to play 16 player Halo, and I might bring either the Gamecube, Dreamcast or both :))

If you bring the Gamecube do you have Super Smash Brothers Melee?
IntrepidLHS 04-01-2003, 01:45 AM I've got a gamecube and super monkey ball 2... its more fun than ssbm
stevedemon 04-01-2003, 02:03 AM 16 player HALO? mmm...
Avenger 04-01-2003, 08:24 AM Yes I have SSBM, but only 3 controllers (someone bring a GC controller damnit! :D)
I can possibly bring 2 Xboxes, 8 controllers, 2 copies of Halo, a hub and some cables :)
IntrepidLHS 04-01-2003, 10:03 AM I can bring the cube, need for speed, super monkey ball, 2 wavebirds and as many other controllers as we need.
Great! I can bring a couple of games possibly. If you need any ps2 controllers or Cube controllers I can bring them. I also can bring a game system if needed. :)
I almost forgot. Do you have all of the characters in Super smash brothers melee? I can bring my memory card so we have all of the characters and some extras. ;)
IntrepidLHS 04-02-2003, 02:27 AM I think I have all the characters from when my brother was playing it, I know I have all the mini-games unlocked for monkey ball.
Avenger 04-02-2003, 07:57 AM Yes, my 8MB memory card has a WELL played SSBM save (although I had about 500 hours on the game when it got erased by my friend last time :()
Mmmmmmmmmmmmm, Wavebirds! :D
BRING THEM! :D
