To see more check out Dodge Media (http://www.media.daimlerchrysler.com) log in as guest and click on Auto Shows .

The one thing I noticed that I do not like is the park brake is still a pedal not a hand brake (BOO ) .
Also check out the shifter knob, leather and the return of the chrome strip .See the 160MPH speedo !!!.

Now that's just the Magnum concept car...not the production vehicle, correct?

Its probably pretty close to production, check out the spot next to the shifter. Since when do they put convenient little trays like that in pure concept cars?

Well, yeah, I know. :)

That's why I was wondering if it was a PVO car or not. :)

hmmmm. I'm not lovin that just yet. The rear kinda looks like a photoshop cut and paste job to me. Interior looks sharp and the nose is mean looking though.

But hey, I'm a PT Cruiser fan so what do I know.

Hey ottowrkr,

It's like every other Chrysler design. At first you don't like it at all. Then after looking at it for about 5 minutes it starts to appeal to you. When you follow the body lines around you begin to appreciate it more and more. After about 20 minutes you want, no, you need more! Sign me up for one. I hate wagons but something is pulling me towards the dealership... help!!! :D

I love the roof line and silhouette of the car. The window appear to have a "chopped" look. Me likey, Vipie want 8eee.

Yep, looked at it for 5 mins and I like it. I agree with otto, going to have to wait for the 4 door. Already have a van for hauling the kids and other stuff. What is it 05 or 06, good time to trade he Trep.

To be sure, it's more of a love-it-or-hate-it design than anything else. It's like the PT Cruiser... people either love it or hate it.

Unless the Chrysler version looks better, I won't be getting one of these LX's if this is what they're gonna look like.

This from somebody who doesn't know a good design when they see one (ie an Altima owner).

But seriously, LIKE ANY VEHICLE some people are going to like it and some people won't like it. From what I see I'm one of those people who likes it. Hopefully it will be at the Detroit Auto Show so I can see it up close and personal. :)

I for one love this car I found my other car the Focus ZTW wagon to be very useful to use and with kids we have loads of room.. fold down the seats and you can put alot of stuff back there..now take the Magnum about twice the size and avalible w/ a hemi I for one will need the AWD version RWD in New England is useless..so hell yeah i'll drive this station wagon w/ pride ..the only problem i'll have is the price of this thing any ideas what a regular Magnum will cost??? I'm sure the magnum srt-8 will be around $27,000 or more??? and does anyone have any idea if the AWD will be full time or part time???:Dhttp://wwwsg.daimlerchrysler.com/GMS/CONTENT/IMAGES/5363763_4Frontw__Trees__mid.jpg

I don't know if that thing would be any good in the snow, that front bumper sure looks like it makes a great snow plow.
I looked at it for a few minutes and i love it now.

I would assume full time AWD...they usually don't put a part time system on cars.

I beleive AWD is typically a "part-time" set-up. If the computer detects slipage it will send power to the other set of wheels (in this case the front wheels). That's what I read somewhere so maybe they were wrong.

DMAG
01-03-2003, 10:23 PM
True, but what I meant by part time was engaging the 4WD drive system manually. As oppposed to a system controlled by the vehicle.

The system on my Jeep is considered "part-time". I have to pull a lever to use 4WD.

In a full time situation as the case of my brother's Sante Fe, I believe 90% goes to the front wheels normally and 10% to the rear in normal driving conditions (it's a front driver). When it detects slippage, it adjusts accordingly. On a rear wheel drive car, the percentages would be the opposite I assume.

Looks like Dodge spent some time on the rear lift gate design. I was never a fan of the LH fog lamp look but yes it does look better then as SE. The LX fog lamps, either need to be bigger or more plastic surrounding the lamps. Rear "Dodge" & "SRT-8" logos need to be pushed more towards the center. The tires have a strong resemblence to the BMW 7 series. Nice & beefy. True chrome is the way to go & I like how the car has a monochromatic look to it except for the logos. The second row seat folding into the floor is a VERY sweet feature. Yes Dodge will loose sales because of a lack of a 3rd row seat. Eh whatever. Nav system I figured. Good sized screen as well. Looks like we finally get some decent sized side mirrors. Hopefully the headlights put out more like, HID's please, thank you. I didn't think they supercharged that 5.7 Hemi to get 430HP out of it. I know the engine is all aluminum unlike the Ram's. The only thing I see really WRONG with this car, 4000 lbs.

Well, the headlamps ARE HID, and yes the engine IS supercharged with a Whipple supercharger. :)

It's not that bad!

Actually, it's very "tough" looking for a wagon. Definitely not your fathers VistaCruiser. I like it!

Well, if the powerplant and drivetrain can get the car to 60 MPH in 5.5 seconds then I say who cares if it is 4000 lbs. :)

Sorry, wagons arent for me...maybe if they chopped off the back and made a trunk instead of it being a wagon, it would be more apealing. It has great styling and an EXCELLENT engine, but...wagon = bad IMO

Candyman

Yes it may look like a wagon, but that's the way of the industry right now, it's the "next big thing". I looked at just about every manufacturer and they had one of these so-called "wagon" either already in thier line-up or as a concept. The SRT-8 really looks a lot better in person IMO.

Isn't it weird how 10 years ago everyone got rid of their wagon designs and now they are considered cool? Well, some manufacturers kept them but they were mainly imported vehicles. Some companies stopped sending them over to the US and Europeans bought them continuously up to now. I guess it it Europe's SUV. I still like the Magnum design and 430/475 can only help sales.

YB Normyl

Hatchbacks are also still very popular in Europe, I guess they stick with what they like.

I don't mind the looks so much anymore, but it still doesn't look right. I'm not sure what it is, but it seems off balance to me...almost in the same way as the new Mazda RX-8 looks head-on.

And for those of you wondering, 4WD is different from AWD. AWD typically describes a part time system where torque is transferred to the primary drive wheels unless slippage occurs. When slippage occurs, a vicious (sp?) coupling is usually what transfers the torque "...from the wheels that slip to the wheels that grip" (a Subaru commercial, I believe). That's typically done by an electro-hydraulically controlled transfer case. The split to front and rear wheels usually is NOT 50/50.

4WD uses a mechanical linking (usually a lockable differential) to transfer torque to all 4 wheels 50/50. If I remember correctly, about 10 years ago this couldn't be done unless your vehicle was moving at less than 5 mph, and required a large shift lever to lock. Newer systems are electronically controled with push buttons, and I don't believe they require you to be stopped or nearly stopped anymore.

I've not heard any news stating the SRT-8 would have AWD, but that certainly would make sense. Hope this helps. :)
