I took my car in to be serviced and they said the rough idle was the intake gaskets like you all said so I had them replaced, they also threw on a new water pump because it was leaking and an alternator belt tensioner because it was squealing...and a day and a half later...it's idling rough enough to shake the car, the trans. is shifting funny and I've lost pretty much all my low end power!
SOMEBODY HELP ME! I just bought this friggin car three weeks ago and I haven't had anything but problems so far!

come on guys...please! I'm honestly worried! it's idling hard enough that if I sit at the stop line and take my foot off the brake it jerks and jumps foward and the car rocks and shakes noticably!!!

Well the only thing I can sugdgest is taking it back to the shop adn demanding they fix it for free, all places have at least a 30 day warranty. as far as what the problem might be, I have no clue unfortunately.

Mine is running like a brat as well. I am ready to do the intake gaskets and fuel rail deal. I can't figure it out. It gives me a code 43. I just put a new fuel pump in it a month ago too. It is starting to cost me money at 135,000 miles.

Tikibeast, you don't need equipment to check for emission codes. Just use the" keydance" method and count the CEL pulses as described elsewhere on this site and at www.allpar.com.

tiki. Run the codes like Fred says. Our cars are pretty good for showing what's wrong.
Basically , turn your ignition to AC on, displays and stereo on, but not quite cranking the engine over. Then back off, on , off, on. Leave it there, and you will see the engine light pulse a certain number of times. Copy it down, you should be able to distinguish between double numerical codes. and the 55 and the end is a normal end code. Means nothing. Post your findings. :D
Bad chugging sounds like a pcv valve and hose. Mine was so soft it closed up . Gave nasty idling. Also check to make sure your spark plug wires are seated VERY firmly on your plugs. I also had to recently change my EGR assembly as well. That helped, and it runs good.. but there is still a slightly rough idle.. it's there and annoying, sometimes a little worse than normal..
Also had fuel filter changed, changed my air intake filter, had my plugs wires replaced for a second time because the first ones were toasted thanks to dodge not seating one right, causing it ot arc. Because I sure as hell didnt play with it.
I put some fuel injector cleaner in tonight and it seemed to help a little. I gunned it on the highway to force feed it. :D (not anywhere near redline, but more bolder than usual as of late.)
I hope you chase down your problem well. :D

Hi Guys - This isn't far off my tech help post.
I have a code 12 Battery or computer recently disconnected
and
Code 43
Peak primary coil current not achieved with max dwell time
OR
Cylinder misfire
OR
Problem in power module to logic module interface
These all point toward power, not a gasket leak. However I am going to get some O2 Sensor safe silicon and try to seal the gasket. If it works, I do the gasket. If not, I do electrical. I'll post results late next week.
Tiki - I had the opportunity to speak with a well respected engine rebuilder. He has tremendous respect for this engine. Says it has only one problem - "Lack of Respect" He says follow the manual and change all the fluids it says, when it says with the exact type it says and drive forever. Don't let hack mechanics near it.

ok...
I've got a #5 cyl. misfiring and it seems that it'll be fixed via new plugs and plug wires which the dealership is trying to say they wont repair even though their inspection sheet says they check all starting and idle systems...I'll let the BBB have them...

UPDATE!!! The BBB didn't do squat (bureaucrat jerkoffs!) so I got off my ass and fixed it myself today...yesterday now, replaced plugs and wires (and flushed the engine and cleaned fuel injectors while I was at it) and it runs so smooth...and I've got all my greatly missed power back as well...
cheers!
