View Full Version : Automatic headlights?
sayler2b 04-16-2003, 08:13 AM I read in my owner's manual that the headlights on my '94 LHS are automatic, such as when the switch is turned off (all the way to the left) the headlights will come on automatically when it gets dark enough. Well, they don't. Just curious if this was an option on these cars that I don't have, or if there's something wrong with mine. Does anyone else have a first gen. LHS with auto headlights that work?
TehKing 04-16-2003, 10:07 AM The automatic headlights are standard on all 1G LHS'.
Make sure the switch is as far to the left as you can get it and that the sun sensor (the thing poking up in the center of the dash near the windshield) is clear of debris.
If that doesn't work, try going through all the fuses looking for dead ones.
IS300M 04-16-2003, 10:31 AM The should be a setting 'A' next to the off postion on your headlights. I would check to make sure that Alarm Indicator/ Sunsensor is not blocked.
P.S. Our old 1994 New Yorker had Automatic Headlights and they worked fine..
sayler2b 04-16-2003, 03:38 PM I have no "A" to the left of the "O" mark. Apparently not a standard option on the 1G LHS. Or maybe the previous owner had the switch replaced and they put in the wrong one? Thanks for the info!
IS300M 04-16-2003, 05:45 PM Well, My Grandparents had a 1995 Chrysler Concorde(before lx or lxi) and it had auto headlights, but no 'A' postion. You could always get a switch with the 'A' position

jfsram 04-16-2003, 11:40 PM The sun sensor was replaced in our 94 about 2 years ago.
sayler2b 04-18-2003, 01:09 PM jfsram, did your '94 lhs have an "A" setting to the left of the off setting or not? I see that someone with a '95 concorde had auto headlights with no "A" setting. I already ordered the headlight switch with the "A" setting. I'm wondering now if the switch is fine, but the sunsensor is fried....Anyone know more about this, were there cars with auto headlights and no A setting?
jfsram 04-20-2003, 01:29 AM Ok, the car is outside and it's 1:30 in the morning. I don't remember what the settings are labelled but it has four positions. Technically 5 positions.
Starting from the left Automatic, Off, Park lights, Headlights. If you pull on the switch in Automatic or Headlights position you will turn on the driving lights.
sayler2b 04-20-2003, 11:32 PM Thanks for the info, I'll install the new switch and see what happens...
sayler2b 04-28-2003, 10:25 PM Ok, got the switch with the A put in and the lights don't come on in the A position when it gets dark. The rest of the settings work fine. I'am looking for a sun sensor on-line, but not having much luck. Do I have to order this part from chrysler dealer? I will check the junk yard first, but I'm not likely to find this part. If that's not the problem, then I don't know, maybe the car never did have auto headlights. It is an early '94 model.
cadet_hennigan 04-29-2003, 12:11 AM Does anyone know if it is possible to add automatic headlights to a 96 intrepid with ease? Have any of you LHS owners been forced to replace/ work on your lights? Just curious 'cause I really like my mom's auto headlights on her 300m.
sayler2b 04-29-2003, 05:42 PM You would need the Auto headlight switch and the sunsor at least. I'm not sure if the body controller computer is hooked into this or not, but I'm betting it is. It might be pretty tough to get everything to work right together. I did put a sunsenor in today that I found at the junkyard, just waiting for it to get dark to test it.
sayler2b 04-30-2003, 02:55 PM I GIVE UP!!! It was a valiant effort, but I will just have to turn my headlights on the old fashioned way! I don't think the car ever had auto headlights after talking with the previous owner. On to my next project, STRUTS!
