I just finished my surround sould system. (except for the Woofers). To date it has 22 speakers. Coax in the center dash (center channel). The front doors have componets 6.5 and 1" tweeters. Coax 2.5" GTO 220's in the front flag locations. The rear doors have Coax 2.5" GTO 220's and 1" tweeter in the rear flag locations. The rear deck has 6X9 tri-axle. I installed 2 1"tweeters in the rear center console (center channel). All the speakers are Infinity Kappa's except for the JBL 220's. Looking for 8" woofers for the rear deck.

Is your receiver 5.1 encoded?

I am installing a IVA-D900 (replacing another alpine head unit) that is hooked up to an alpine 510 digital surround sound processor. I am still using the stock (360w amp) to run the center channel but the rest is run by a RF 851X amp, So the answer is yes, and loving it. I went with it because I also have a 6 disk DVD changer in the trunk. I can drive between Phoenix AZ and San Francisco CA with out changeing a movie disk.

Gata love DVD Changers I love mine too :). Man that sounds like a killer surround sound setup, just a thought Fosgate used to make 8" subs I dont know If they still do but worth a look into it

Avoid using free air subwoofers in the rear deck. Make an enclosure, or use 8" mids.

Also, try to focus your system on fewer and better speakers instead of just lots of all kinds of speakers.

I would not use the stock center channel. It will be the weak point in your system. All of the stock equipment is made of substandard quality.

You should not need more then 9 speakers for mids/highs (and thats with counting comps/coaxs as 2), and 2 for lows.

I will make it inclosed for the rear deck subs. (do not want to have anything in the trunk. Even my air suspension Compressor and tanks are underneath the vehicle) The Stock amp is there until I get another to supply power to the Subs and center channels. I have 110 watts powering the doors and rear deck now. Most people are into deep bass. I want some but want the highs even more. Thnks for the info. I went with the 900 because it has a rear camera hookup so when I go into revers the rear camera shows (along with the back up alert system I have) if anything is back there. and will allow me to use the camera as a rear view mirror while driving. It has a greater angle of view then the mirror does.

How are the JBL GTO220's?? Not harsh or tinny? I tried to replace the "factory" 2.5 with a midrange - tweeter combo out of an old pair of 6 X 9's that I have. Didn't have that "natural" sound that I'm looking for. (perhaps because they were CHEAP speakers to begin with??).

Very interested to know your opinion...

I like them. They are about as good as you can get in the 2.5" size. There is not much out there. Better then the stock infinitys. I got most of mine for about 25 dollars a pair.

I would agree that a good bottom is nice, but it's not everything. Good mids and highs make it.

Where did you find the jbl's?? $25/pair??

I agree low end is important, but I do not want a system that, low end is all you hear.
