For all you R/T owners out there.. question on pricing. This may make some of you sick, or possibly I'm off here. Here's what I'm finding.

Obviously, we know list on the 02, and 01 R/Ts w/ leather sunroof, the works is somewhere around 29,500 or so. (A bit out of my league) Well been shopping for months, and I am nearing a deal, here's what I've been offered.

Found 2 Inferno Reds (Poll winner-Red)(New) 2001 with everything xcept maybe spare tire. 1 has agreed to $22,500, the other is thinking lower but offered $23,000. To me this seems rather a good deal, but I know at new years these will lose $$$ as 1 year old cars.

Anybody gotten or seen a better deal than this? I think i've hit the basement of price range here...

For those of you thinking R/T nows the time to buy!!!

Let me know what you guys think. I'm almost official..

Thanks,

R/T Lust

22.5K sounds like a decent deal for an R/T. But then again, i havent been looking at pricing recently. :-)

Well, going to test drive tomorrow. Might as well get as much "free" seat time as possible. Only driven 2000 R/Ts before, looking forward to the wheel audio controls and leather. Snif, I think I'm in love... ;)

I think you can do a little better. I got mine last year. Base with the power seat and locks. for $18,912.43. I could have had one with the sun roof and leather for $ 20486.50. I hate leather seats in the winter. To dam cold for me. I saw one in the paper Motor Sports R/T with every thing sun roof leather the works. For $22.000 about 2 weeks ago out in western Minn. Have them come down another $500 bucks. Then buy it tell them you found one farther away for $22,000. If they match it you will buy theirs if not you will buy the other dealers today. They need to unload the 2001`s bad it`s a buyers market but the hurt on them.

R/T Lust:

Are these models demo's. If so how many miles.

My 01 R/T came with all the candy with 6k on the odo and was a tick below 30. I got $3000 in rebates plus another $2000 below invoice. I think I paid $21500.

One piece of advice, be ready to move if they offer you a sweet deal, (loans ect).
Also, make sure you get the 7yr 100,000 powertrain warr. Have them throw in all of the oil changes for the first three years or 36000 miles.

Good Luck

Thanks for the info spook & mlfca. Both of these cars are brand new, little to no miles. Niether are demos, just lonely R/Ts needing a good home.

I guess dodge would be selling a buttload of these if that sticker wasn't so high. Why price something 8K more than its worth. Guess there are suckers that will pay it. I've found slightly used 2k's for 21000 with less than 500 miles, but this is the lowest I've found a 2001. Had one guy quote me 29,000 for this car. I emailed him that was high, so he replied 28,700 would be the best he could do. What a joke...

Mlfca,

Oil changes for 3 years? You got that? I've never heard of a dealership doing that...

It all depends on what the market is for the car. The only way to know is to shop yourself. No one ever says they paid too much for a car, I've had friends tell me they paid $x dollars for a car, but you look at their purchase contract, it just ain't so. It's like asking someone how much money they make, no one admits being poor.

One thing about prices on cars is dealers will not sell at a loss unless there is extreme or unusual circumstances. If you get a extremely good price on the actual vehicle, they will try to recapture it on your trade-in, the financing, warranty, etc. They look at the total transaction when making a decision. All cars eventually sell, else they would not bother to stock it, and why would a saleman waste his time on a $50 commission on a no-profit sale?

When I bought my 2000 R/T in October 2000, all they had were 6 R/T's on the lot, no one was buying them due to the price. I got a $6,000 discount off list with no trade in, no warranty, and I arranged my own financing.

Don't forget to see if you qualify for the $400 college graduate/graduate student rebate on top of any other rebates. Gave me a total of $6,400 off list. List was $26,520 on the car.

All you can do is shop around and find out for yourself. There are a lot of Dodge dealers around. You are looking at 25% off list, there is not that much profit in a car.

R/T lust - I agree with taxman ...I THINK! If you find the car you want, buy it. If you get a price that you think is good, jump on it! I paid waaaay too much for my R/T since I also had to spring for commercial shipping from California to Guam via Hawaii. Point is, if you want it you're gonna have to pay for it so just get the best deal you can, take the car and you'll smile when you drive it. I've had my R/T for 1 year and 15 days, just turned 10,000 miles, played with a few small engine modifications, bought new tires (already!) and have had not one single day of buyers remorse! When you get it be sure to thank Otto!

New Tires at 10000 miles? Man is it that hot there, or are you just sending smoke signals to the mainland!

Did you replace them with Michelin?

Well, I bought mine for about 24-25k. She was the only one in the lot. I took a test drive, fell in love with her. :) (so did my dad :))

So I would say 22-23k with all the works PLUS leather, sounds like a good deal to me.

Well just drove 1 of the two I'm looking at. This one had everything EXCEPT Infinity & Trip computer.

Get this, unless the Infinity system is installed @ factory, it costs more to install after the fact, than the option price which I think is $895? SO they didn't want to put it in.

The one I'm seeing tomorrow has it. Does anyone know the deal with 2001 & the trip computer? The brochure (2002) has it as standard on the R/T, but the dealer couldn't even find it as an option... Needless to say, it didn't have it.

I bought my 2000 R/T in May. It had 5100 miles on it and a $23k sticker on it. I had priced a couple ES's in Cleveland, OH and was willing to drive 4 hrs. to get one. Picked up the newspaper on mothers day and the dealer ha dropped 2k off "my" car. I went up Monday morning test drove the car and dickered about the color (black) and mentioned fully loaded ES I was dealing with in Cleveland. Salesman made me an offer...yadda, yadda, yadda, Black R/T in bigdaddy's driveway for 19k. Loaded with sunroof and factory single disc player and no leather.

The key to the deal was not to be the one to make an offer first. Everyone I've spoke to who has had a great deal at a dealer has told me to force the salesman to give you an offer first. It's amazing how much cars are overpriced. Buy a brand new car and drive it off the lot and you instantly loose $4k

I agree. I'm just going to the dealer websites, tell them my plans for Down Payment, and Credit union "preapproved" financing, And ask for their lets not mess around price. Shocking how well that works. One dealer came back to me with 24,500 for loaded 2k1 RT, and I replied, how about 22,500, he comes back saying sure, sounds good, when can we get it done?

You gotta beat um to get the best price.

Some clarification on the difference from 01 to 02. The trip computer and automatic climate control is STD on 02's not available on the 01's.

The infinity sound system came with the steering wheel controls on the 01 but not available the 02. So if you want chrome rims and a spoiler, go with the 02. But you will lose the oil cooler, steering wheel controls, passenger power seat (if you get the leather) and the black grill if you go for the 02.

I recommend you go with a 01. Seems clear that DC cut cost where they could with the Intrepid. (Sorry otto)

My dealer gave me the free oil changes to get people in the show room. I'll never use them, he to fart away to justify the pain in the ass factor.

Good luck

Hey Mlfca,

Did you get the top extended warranty plan? I was talking to my dealer about that. Oil changes are included in that plan. He recommended going with the mid level extended warranty, saying most bang for the buck.

I concurr on the 2k1. Something about the black on the nose that I like. Saw the 02 brochure, and was like, what the hell is that? Looks completely different.

Plus for the money, I'm all over the 2k1

The Big one on your website. The shot from the rear on the Passenger side. I took the same pic today at the dealership.

(Of course this means when I get mine, you have to vote me IOM...)

Sweet...

R/T lust - long story about the tires, but I finally got a defective tire replaced and thought I should hold onto the hi-speed Michelins until I return to the hi-speed mainland. Our roads are so-so and the speed limit is 35 with a couple of short "bursts" up to 45!!! So I bought a set of Yokohamas to tear up. They ride very nice, quiet, softer, and grip like mad in the rain. We do get rain. We had something over 14" of rain in Nov.

No extented warr. I am going to complain to DC that I should get 7/70 deal.

Where did my post go

I did not get the extended warr. I want the 7/70 deal from DC for free.

R/T LUST
12-01-2001, 07:25 AM
Well I get the 7/100 deal, but as the salesman explained, it only covers powertrain & engine, and even then only things that touch fluid, being oil or trans. So if your computer goes out, your screwed. That would fall under the Extended warranty.

R/T LUST
12-01-2001, 07:29 AM
Bear in mind the 7/70 is powertrain only. That means only the parts that touch fluid, being oil or trans that are covered. So if you lose a computer, or your power seat flips out, your screwed.

Anybody have any recommendations on which warranty to get? As I said the dealer recommended the middle as being the most bang for the buck...
